“Whoops.” I shrug. There goes seventy thousand.
“Winter!” Daisy’s voice rings out behind me, but I don’t bother turning around. My wife can do whatever she wants. Now that I know who she really is. “Winter, stop!”
She’s making a scene, but I don’t care. I could buy and sell everyone at this party, and it’s not like TMZ is here. So I ignore her, head outside, and walk over to the car. I’ll drive myself home.
“Winter, wait!”
I’m pulling open the driver’s side door when she reaches me. Somehow, she has the nerve to slap me on the back of the neck.
“What the fuck are you doing!?” I roar, spinning around to face her. She flinches slightly, and I almost feel bad for scaring her. Almost.
“Where are you going?!”
“Oh, fuck off,” I snap. “Go shove your tongue in Sebastian’s mouth some more.”
“He kissed me,” Daisy hisses.
“Oh, right!”
“And what do you care anyway?” she asks. “I’m just your fake wife, right? Sebastian told me all about your other girls. Tell me, Winter, how many girls does one man need? Are you just adding me to your harem?”
I burst out laughing. The irony. “Harem? Get real. I was all ready to settle down with you!”
“Yeah, as a fucking business strategy!”
“You took the money!” I counter.
“I’ll give it back!” she snaps instantly, putting both hands on her hips. She must be joking. But I see no signs of deception in her eyes. “What’s the matter, Winter? Never had a girl offer to not take money from you?”
“Oh, they have,” I laugh. “They’re playing the long game. Trying to convince me that they actually like me.”
Daisy’s nose scrunches up, and she takes a step forward. “Let me tell you something, Winter Wellington. I hated you. Hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, hate!”
“How many hates is that?” I ask.
“Zip it!” she snaps. “I used to hate you. I didn’t even want to come and work for you after what you did to my old job. But I needed the money, so I did. So don’t you dare accuse me of gold-digging!”
Shit. She’s serious? I’m a good judge of character—it’s one of the reasons I’m so successful. Either Daisy is better than Meryl Streep or she ain’t lying.
Sebastian is a creep who thinks he owns the world. He also doesn’t like me very much and is always trying to one-up me when it comes to business. Wouldn’t surprise me if he also tried to steal my girl. Just the thought of his hands on her makes my blood boil.
“You wanna give the money back?” I ask.
“Yes.”
“Don’t lie to me,” I tell her.
“Bring a fucking tablet right now,” she snaps. “And I’ll sign whatever you want.”
“No,” I shake my head as a smile comes over my face. “No, I believe you.”
I grab Daisy by the wrist and pull her to me, then gently rub my thumb across her gorgeous lips.
“Wh—what are you doing?”
“Wiping off Sebastian’s cooties,” I tease. Daisy’s eyes go wide.
“Oh, you—!”
