“Who is she!?” she hisses.

“Cait, you need to calm down—”

“Don’t tell me to calm down, asshole!” her voice is like nails on a chalk board. “Tell me who she is so I can kill her!”

I hear footsteps and look up to see Sheryl appear in the doorway, her cell phone at her ear. “Call the cops!” I tell her.

“Already am,” she replies quickly.

“Tell them—”

“Yeah, tell them his wife just caught him cheating!” Cait shouts as she fights to get free of my grip. “I’ll take you for half of everything, you prick!”

Outside, I hear Jennie’s car starting, followed by the sound of her tires as she peels out in the driveway. My heart sinks into my feet. I hold Cait, kicking and screaming, until I’m sure Jennie’s gone. Then I let her go.

She whirls on me and aims a finger at my face. “Oh, you’ve gone and done it now! Did you really think I wouldn’t find out that you were cheating on me?”

“Cait,” I say as calmly as possible. “I’m not cheating on you—”

“No? So what do you call having your hands stuffed up a naked girl’s vagina then? Huh?”

“Jesus, Cait,” I sigh, putting a hand to my head.

“Yes, we need police here right away,” Sheryl says quickly into her phone. This gets Sheryl’s attention and she spins to face her.

“Yeah, we need to lock this bastard up for cheating!” she howls. I snatch her by the wrists as she tries to lunge at Sheryl. She’s lashing out as she always does.

“Get out of here,” I tell Sheryl. She doesn’t need to be told twice. She turns and runs while I hold Sheryl back. Somehow, she manages to drive an elbow into my stomach, causing me to loosen my grip, and manages to wriggle free.

She spins and slams her purse into my shoulder. It actually hurts. Does she have fucking bricks in there?

I duck the next swing and grab her again. “Cait! Cait, stop. You have to stop this.”

“Fuck you!” she howls.

“You don’t know what you’re doing—”

“The hell I don’t!” her voice is ear piercing and her eyes are enraged, almost possessed with anger. “People think you’re a nice guy! If only they knew the real you. If only she knew!”

I don’t even see her next move coming. Cait head butts me – drives her forehead straight into my nose, sending a flash of dull pain through my skull, causing my grip to slip. And that’s all she needed. She twists away from me and sprints out of the room and back up the hall, presumably to get in her car and go after Jennie.

“Fuck,” I curse as blood drips from my nose. As if this wasn’t already bad enough. I grab a paper towel from the side table and press it against my nose and go after her.

Jennie

I feel like a basketball being pushed past its inflation point. I’m right on the edge, and one more pump from one of those air pump thingies, and I’m going to burst.

This is the second time I’ve sped away from Grayson Radcliffe’s house, and there will not be a third! I should have known better than to come here, but I let myself be swindled by his little scheme and now it’s biting me in my ass – my oiled-up ass that is so uncomfortable now in my yoga pants.

I don’t care about the money. He could offer me ten million dollars to go back and I wouldn’t. Whatever crazy thoughts I had in my mind about him being a decent guy are gone now. Now that I’ve met his wife.

Maybe I could have been convinced to come back on a strictly professional basis if she hadn’t looked like a killer out of a horror movie and tried to attack me.

Maybe, but I doubt it.

But now? Pssh, forget it. This girl don’t need that drama.
