“Now you’re catching on,” I agreed, leaning into Valen as he threw an arm over my shoulders as we moved outside.
Sure, our story had some rocky patches, long periods of longing and regret, but all of that heartbreak and uncertainty was worth forever with the only man I’d ever loved.
“What are you thinking about?” Valen asked, making me snap out of my thoughts, realizing that he was steering me toward She’s Bean Around.
“Us. Our unlikely happily ever after.”
“Thank God you were vengeful as fuck, huh?”
“It is one of my most endearing qualities,” I agreed. “We also kind of lucked out that your past came back to haunt you so I could save you.”
“Anytime you need me to be kidnapped and horribly tortured so we can reconnect, you let me know,” he said, holding open the door to the coffee shop to me.
“That’s all I’m asking.”
