Viking’s cell rings. His brows knit in confusion as he stares at the screen. He takes the call. I can’t hear what’s said on the other end of the line, but his knuckles grip the phone so hard they turn white. He smooths his reaction as Mona studies him closely.
Bitch said she’s waiting on a call back from fucking Sanchez like we got time to wait. My guess she was waiting on orders to betray us.
“Outside,” he clips the word at me as he ends the call. Smoke and I follow him out. Static took up playing pool with some locals, bleeding into the background but he’s got his eyes and ears on Mona.
“What’s the word?”
“Need you to promise not to go all ape shit and listen.”
“I’m listening, but if this is shit all to do with your sister, I make no promises.”
“Fuck it. Keep it together or I’ll be forced to knock your ass out.”
“The fuck?”
“Let’s hear what he has to say. Fuck. You two are like children.” Smoke moves between us.
“Just spoke with Karma. Sanchez is dead. Cops are crawling all over the place. My sister is claiming self-defense and its looking to go in her favor. When Sanchez’s lackeys realized he was dead they fled, and police found Rosie tied up in the basement. We need to hold tight until they clear her. It may be a while though. But we got another situation to handle. Rosie told her that Mona knowingly aided the sick fuck in selling children. Need to call Prez and find out what he wants us to do about Mona. Sanchez may be dead but that doesn’t mean someone else won’t be looking to fill his space and claim the territory. He didn’t have children or a wife. No family members to step in.”
As much as it kills me not to run straight to Karma, I know my woman can handle herself. Only wish I coulda been the one to kill the sorry sack of shit.
I pull out my burner and dial Prez. “Sanchez has gone to ground. Where do you stand on these bitches?”
“Cut the head off the viper. Them bitches can sort the rest of their shit out themselves. We’re washed of them.”
“I’ll handle it.”
“Good. See you for church when you get back.”
The three of us head back inside and I nod to Static.
“Need a word in private,” I inform Mona.
“I’ve got a room in the back.”
“Cool.” I don’t let on to the fact that we already know about her soundproof room. Karma told Viking about it coupla’ years back. I have no doubt what her intentions are with this room, but it serves its purpose for what needs to be done. I don’t relish in taking a life. Though Mona won’t be the first animal I’ve put down. Bitch is twisted.
Viking and Smoke follow along with one of Mona’s enforcers.
At the door her bitch does a weapon check when she touches the gun in the back waistband of my jeans and doesn’t confiscate my piece, I know she wants this to go down. I don’t acknowledge the favor. I’m sure there’s a promotion in it for her.
I shut the door behind me, closing myself into the small room with Mona.
She trails her fingers along her desk. “Want a drink?”
“I’m good. Only wanted to give you head’s up in private. Sanchez is dead and you no longer have his protection or ours.” By the time my words register its too late for the bitch. I pull my piece and fire off two rounds. The first bullet lodges in the wall. The second hits the mark in the center of her forehead.
Her blank stare might be the last thing I visualize for a while each night when I lay my head down to sleep, but I’ll deal knowing that every morning I’ll be awakening to Karma. Her body drops.
I tuck my piece back in my cut and leave her for the Harlots to clean up after.
Our group rides up to the hospital. Both Karma and Rosie were brought in to be checked over along with some other females Sanchez was stupid enough to have on his property. I’ve barely shut my bike off when I spot her exiting the hospital looking every bit the part of an avenging angel. Her blonde hair stained by blood along with the white button-down shirt she’s wearing.
Viking reaches her first, wrapping his arms around her in a bear hug. A dark-haired woman walks out the doors marked entrance with a slight limp. Karma reaches for her hand, tucking her into her side. She must be Rosie. They share a few words with Viking before approaching the rest of us.
“We’ll talk once you’ve showered,” I tell her, saving our reunion for later.
Karma rides with her brother and Rosie climbs on the back of Static’s bike. We got a few rooms at a motel a few blocks over.
Viking and Smoke went for food and a change of clothes for Karma. Rosie’s in a room with Static. Brother offered to drive her home, but she’s been through an ordeal and not keen to be on her own. Karma says she’s thinking of heading back to West Virginia with us. I don’t have a problem with the notion. Can’t say I blame her. The Harlots gotta lot of shit to sort with Mona dead and Sanchez’s organization at a standstill. There’s a lot of territory on the line. Wouldn’t be surprised if another charter of Royal Bastards MC pops up and stakes claim. Turns out the other Harlots were growing tired of her bullshit and broken promises. She had a real problem with taking accountability for any of her past actions and decisions. A bad character trait that makes a piss poor leader. The thing that makes a good Prez is an ability to be fair and owning up to wrongdoings. Some people lack integrity. Mona was one of them. I say good riddance to a sadistic bitch who was only out for herself. She didn’t care about her club. Only lining her own pockets.
