Once I pull myself together, I drive to Wylla Mae’s house.
When I pull up East is sitting in the driver’s side of Wylla’s jeep with it already running. I give him a wave and hurry to park. I know I’m running late. By the time I hop out of my Durango Wylla Mae is closing the front door behind her. My bestie looks great. She’s wearing a tight fitting pink sweater with a v-neck paired with ripped jeans and sexy black boots that come midway up her calves with fur around the top.
“Sorry I’m late.”
She waves my apology off. “It’s fine. Both kids are already down for the night. Mila shouldn’t wake up any. Milo will wake up for feedings and wet diapers. You know the drill though.” She gives me a hug and releases me.
“You guys have a great time. Don’t worry about us. Stay out all night if you like.”
“May take you up on that.”
East blows the horn.
Someone is impatient for a night of no babies and having his wife all to himself. “Go. Get out of here.”
“Thanks for doing this.”
“No thanks needed.”
“You really are my best friend and I’d do anything to see you happy.”
“I know. Same here.”
She nods. “Okay. I better get in the car before East decides to go without me.”
“He’d never leave you.”
She smiles and scurries down the porch steps and climbs into the vehicle in a flash.
I go in the house as they barrel down the driveway like they can’t get away fast enough.
East must be a man on a mission.
I enter the house and immediately something is off.
Why are their tealight candles everywhere? And I mean everywhere along with pink rose petals scattered on the hardwood floors. Maybe East was being all sweet before they left.
I’m about to start blowing them out when I hear, “princess.” His voice slides down my spine smooth like butter. My heart pounds against my chest.
What’s he doing here?
