I’d been crying. I did remember that, at least.

“I… thought you were leaving.”

He stared at me for a moment, his frown deepening. “Is that the only reason you slept with me? Because you thought you’d never have to see me again?”

I tried to slip out of the bed, to put distance between us, because suddenly I didn’t know if being naked, and this close to him, would be a good thing.

“Julie!” Adam grabbed my hand, halting my escape, and then he cursed again.

“Fucking Seb. Look, I’m sorry I upset you, and I’m sorry I told you I’d be gone by now. I fully planned to be, because I thought it was best for you. For your safety. The people I’m mixed up with, uh, well, they’re not done with me, but we’ve come to an agreement. Once I wrap up what I’m working on for them, I’m done.” He groaned. “Well, at least I hope that’s what Marco meant when he drugged me, and I woke up tied up, and thought I was going to die.”

“Oh my god! Who are these people? Adam, you should have gone.”

He actually looked hurt by that comment.

“I don’t mean that you should be gone because I want you gone, idiot. I mean, these people seem dangerous, and if what happened last night is an indication of the way they treat you, then you shouldn’t have stayed.”

He shrugged, and didn’t curse after, so I took it as a sign that he was improving a little.

“I may have over-reacted to what was going on. It was a terrible day, with Harvey being identified, and poor Jeff’s reaction, and I just felt like stepping away from this would be the best move. They feel otherwise, and I think they’re right. And they still don’t know about you. I promise.”

He stroked my wrist, because he hadn’t released my hand yet.

“I didn’t want yesterday to be our only time together either.”

“So you came here because you thought I’d sleep with you again? Because I gave it up so easily yesterday?”

That’s what sluts do, remember? Just spread your legs, and let him inside you. Maybe he can make sure you get pregnant this time.

I rubbed at my face. “No. This can’t happen again.”

Adam groaned, and pushed the covers away, revealing that he’d worn his boxers to bed yet again.

“I’ll go. At least I know you’re safe, and you slept okay. Can I use the bathroom before I go please?”

I nodded dumbly, and watched as he crossed the room, grabbing clothes as he went. As I sat and stared at the closed door, I heard the shower start up, and frowned. I said he could use the bathroom. Nobody mentioned the shower.

I strode from the bed to the door, finding it unlocked, and I opened it to give him a mouthful for taking liberties, and instead he was standing by the door, like he’d waited for me. In a single move, he pulled me into the room, shoving the door closed, and walked me back until I was pressed against the door.

“Adam…”

He kissed my forehead, and ran his fingers through my hair. I was naked, and so was he. His boxers had been discarded, and his hard cock pressed against my stomach.

He moved down to my lips, and I shoved hard against his chest, making him back up.

“Stop!”

He frowned, backing up another step, until he was almost in the bath.

“I’m sorry… I just wanted to kiss you.”

I grimaced. “I know… and I want you to, but… there’s this thing… called morning breath?”

He covered his mouth. “Oh god… is it bad?”

I giggled, shoving him aside. “I mean, I want to brush my teeth, dammit. I’m worried about my breath.”

He barked out a laugh, and reached over to the sink, grabbing the toothpaste. Popping it open, he smeared some on his finger, and then he reached out to me.
