“Probably for the best. You’d only accidentally shoot your own nuts off.”

My phone buzzed then, and I remembered my chat with Julie. I backed away from Nige, slipping the phone from my pocket.

LittleAngel: My parents would definitely not approve of you, Adam. But I’ll wear my fuzzies for you. And wait in my bedroom.

I smirked. She felt like being cute? I could deal with that.

Me: Oh my sweet baby girl, we’ll make sure mummy and daddy never find out, okay?

I looked at Nige, because we’d fallen silent, while I flirted with my lady.

“Sorry, did I miss something? I, uh… it’s my girlfriend.”

He pursed his lips at me. “We’re done here. Now why don’t you sod off, so I can get on with my work.”

Nice. I shrugged, turning to walk away. My eyes were still on my phone, but I stopped suddenly.

“Who’s telling the Bennetts, and what do I do next?”

He waved a hand at me. “I’ll sort it. Go away.”

Wow. He can be an unfriendly guy. I left and waited until I was sitting in my car, before I tried ringing Julie.

“Hi.” She sounded bright, cheery… it wasn’t what I expected.

“You okay, little angel? I know we weren’t on great terms, when I left this morning.”

She sighed, and I heard her put something down. A mug or a glass maybe?

“I know. I’m sorry if I overreacted. I was… my own stuff makes me doubt what we have, sometimes. But I know I don’t want to lose you, so I’m going to try and trust that you’re keeping secrets from me for a good reason. That sounds crazy, even to me… but I don’t want to be away from you.”

“I’m glad. Look, I need to go to my place and pick up some things, and then I’m going to come to yours. We’ll be together, okay?”

She agreed, and I ended the call, because what I’m learning today, is… less is more. Don’t keep drivelling on, when things seem to be working out. Get the fuck on with things.

I reached my place and headed straight for my room, grabbing a holdall. I’d grab some fucking clothes, and get the hell over to Julie’s. I tossed underwear in there, although I really hoped I wouldn’t fucking need it. Staying naked the whole damn time sounded perfect.

I threw in a few t-shirts, some spare jeans, and socks. I debated taking the bike, but the weather was so icy again, that it probably wasn’t worth the risk. It was safe in the garage.

I heard a noise downstairs, which made me wonder if I’d missed someone knocking at the door. Did Julie come to me, misunderstanding my words?

I hurried downstairs to check the door, and something crashed into my head.
