Raine relaxed back on the bed. “I like Reva.”
“She likes you as well.” Humor filled his voice.
Luxuriating being under Skars, she rubbed her breasts against his chest as she teasingly dragged her fingertips over his cheekbones and beard. “Is there anything else you want to include in our contract? I’m willing to bargain.”
Skars went to his side to prop his head on his hand. “Depends on what you’re thinking about. Is there something else you want me to promise you?”
“I’m afraid of heights …” she began. “Do you really see me being able to go into outer space without going into cardiac arrest?”
“The heart stopping is bad.”
Skars took her hands by the wrists to raise her into a sitting position and remove the loose shirt she had swiped from him. Cupping the breast closest to her heart, Skars lifted the nipple to his lips, his tongue coming out to lick the tip.
“I could find a safe place on Earth, and you could fly back every night from your adventures in outer space,” she reasoned, running her hands over his sleek shoulders. “I miss having ground under my feet.”
Skars used his chest to push her back down to the soft mattress. “You will have ground under your feet again when we find another planet we can call home,” he promised.
Lowering her lashes, she didn’t argue. His mind was made up, and she was sure so were the rest of the Viking men. She had no confidence in ever being able to change his mind, much less anyone else’s in the clan.
Not for the first time, she wished she were the type of woman who, when men were in love with them, they were willing to move mountains for. While she thought Skars liked her, enjoyed the time they spent together, and definitely reveled in having sex with her, Raine didn’t think any of it would be enough of an incentive to stay on Earth with her, much less move a mountain.
“Well, at least I have several months to prepare myself.” Lifting her pelvis to his, she made it obvious what she wanted from him.
A long sigh escaped her when the head on his penis latched on. The twin sensations of having her vulva and nipple sucked at the same time did provide a glimpse of what it would be like to go to outer space. Skars could make her feel as if she never wanted to go back to Earth. The problem was, every time she went up, she could never quite escape the eerie feeling that, one day, she was going to crash and burn.
Chapter 25
Raine
Standing with her hands on her hips, Raine stared at the immaculate room she had just finished cleaning. She was bored to tears.
Leaving their bedroom, she went to the main room, only to find it was just as clean as she had left it yesterday. Returning to the elevator, Raine was bored enough to do something she had never done before. She moved her hand on the panel next to the door in a different direction than Skars had showed her.
When the door slid open, she didn’t recognize the area. She stepped out and started walking down the small hallway, coming to a door that Raine experimentally put her hand on to see if it would open. Disappointment didn’t prevent her from continuing down the hall, coming to another door. There were only two others left farther down. She was already becoming pessimistic that none of them would open.
Her heart lurched in fright when it did open. Should she leave and ask Skars about it when he returned tonight before entering?
Boredom had her disregarding that sound piece of advice.
She came to standstill at what was inside the room. Several minutes passed before she could make her feet move.
The room had been made into a conservatory. Plants of every color and size were growing, some reaching high toward the ceiling. Cautiously, she remained where she was with visions of several horror films playing out in her mind. Could one be capable of eating a human like the Venus flytrap on Earth?
Her eyes widened when they came to the far wall, and she saw several plants she recognized. Homesickness had her hand going to her belly to settle the ache.
Leaving the room, Raine went to the two other rooms to find even more plants and trees. The last room held trees that had what she assumed were different varieties of fruit when she recognized lemon, lime, and apple trees from Earth.
She wondered if this was how the Vikings were able to feed themselves between planets, or would they have to depend on the planet food supply?
Promising herself a fresh squeezed glass of lemonade tomorrow after she was able to get Skars’ permission to pluck some lemons, she excitedly entered the elevator.
