“Now it’s your head in the gutter, pretty little thing.” He opens my curtains and points out the window to a motorcycle.
“Oh. So you want that big beast between my legs,” I answer, adding my own perversion to it, knowing exactly what I’m doing.
He growls and shakes his head, dropping the curtain. “You’re trouble.”
“The best kind. I haven’t been on a motorcycle since I was a girl, so let’s do this.” I rub my hands together and give him a wicked grin before dashing over to my bedroom to slip on some jeans instead of the leggings I have on. There’s no way I’m getting on a bike without some protection. Although, I’m not so much worried about the bike as I am about being so close to Cowboy.
As soon as I’m ready, I walk us out of the apartment and lock the door. He takes my hand, leads me down to his massive bike, and sets a helmet on my head.
“Where’s your helmet?” I question.
“I’m good. I’m just protecting precious cargo.” Why does he have to be so damn sweet? I’m not supposed to be falling for him. I have plans that don’t include throwing my life away for a man.
“I hope you’re not a terrible driver.”
“No way in hell,” he growls before kicking the engine started. “Wrap your arms around me, Angel face.” I cling to him with my arms around his waist. The roar is loud, purring in my ears as he takes off. Although the sound of my own heart thumps throughout my entire body, taking over the sound of the bike.
My chest is pressed to his back and I can feel the firmness of his brute strength naturally built into his frame from hard work on his ranch. A moan slips past my lips as I rest my cheek against his spine. He can’t hear me over the sound, so I don’t even bother feeling remotely embarrassed.
My eyes stay closed because I need to hold onto him and this moment in my mind since I know there’s no way I’ll let this go too far. I’m here with a deeper mission that he can’t get in the way of.
We speed through town until we reach his ranch. The dirt roads lead straight to his home which is badass. It’s the quintessential farmhouse in pristine condition. He slows down and pulls into the driveway.
“We’re home, Angel,” he says, getting off his bike and then helping me off. I’m a little unsteady on my feet at first, and I stumble, but he has me in his arms so I don’t fall. “I’ve got you.”
“Thanks. It’s been a long time since I’ve been on a bike,” I tell him. He grunts, looking bothered somehow. The truth is I’ve never been on one, but he doesn’t need to know that.
“Come on. I’ve got the horses ready for your first lesson.” My eyelids pop open wide.
I shake my head and stick out my hands. “Wait, I’m not sure about this.”
He grabs them and pulls me to his strong frame. Tipping my chin to meet his gaze, he says, “I am. I know why you’re really here. So unless you want me to out your ass, I suggest you get your cute little bottom on a horse and learn to ride.”
His honey-colored eyes bore down into mine, daring me to challenge, but all I could do was stare. I have a feeling nothing’s going to get me out of this mess. “Fine, lead the way, Cowboy. I don’t have all day.” I roll my eyes and push off him.
“Oh yeah? You have plans?”
“I still have a job to do,” I tell him, slamming my hands on my hips.
He turns and crowds my space. I look up at him and his eyes narrow. “Stalking Sammie isn’t what I call a job.”
“That’s not my job,” I argue, avoiding those hawk eyes that read my lies easily.
A chuckle falls from his perfect lips. He grasps my waist and pulls me close to him again, so there’s little to no distance between us. “Bullshit. You’re paid to follow her around. Don’t fucking lie to me, Angel.”
“How do you know that?” I step out of his hold and slide my footing one step back.
He shakes his head and crosses his thick, muscular arms over his broad chest. “It’s easy to figure out. Besides, Miller left a paper trail even if you didn’t. Now, I know it’s for a good reason, but it still doesn’t make it right.”
I shrug. If it’s a good reason, then I don’t give no fucks. “What would you do if you had to be away from the woman you loved? Would you worry about her?”
“I’d lose my ever-loving mind and do whatever I could to get back to her, leaving her surrounded by guard dogs.”
