Too fucking bad for him.

I knock twice before hearing a grumbled “enter.”

Director Rene stands leaning against his desk, reading the newspaper's front page. I didn’t even know they still wasted paper on that shit anymore.

“Agent Brenner, what can I do for you?” he drawls out, never looking up from the newspaper.

“The Olins have a shipment coming in tonight,” I blurt.

Director Rene looks up and hums before placing the newspaper down and giving me his full attention. “I need permission to gather a team to infiltrate their warehouse.”

“Liam…” he says in a warning tone.

Director Rene worked closely with my dad. As much as I hate that he knows I’m still looking for The Omen, I owe the man some respect.

“I know what you’re going to say: ‘Let it go.’”

I add the quotation sign with my fingers for emphasis.

“But with all due respect, sir. The Omen killed my parents, and my name isn’t fucking Elsa.”

He watches me, mulling over my words, knowing I’ll either do this by the book with his permission or do it alone.

Finally, he dips his chin once in agreement.

“Fine, gather your team. But, even though I‘m agreeing to let you handle this, I need you to promise me something.” I nod, willing to agree to anything for this chance.

“Keep your emotions out of it. If your focus isn’t where it needs to be, you’ll end up like your parents. You’re an outstanding agent, Liam. But, if you go in blind and stupid, you won’t be a part of this any longer. Joseph and Nadya’s killer will continue to run rampant.”

I flinch when he says my parents’ names. It’s been too long since I’ve had a conversation about them, let alone heard their names spoken out loud.

“Got it,” I reply, turning on my heel, leaving the director’s office, and closing his door behind me.

When I reach the elevator, I remember I’m supposed to be taking Mila out tonight. But this can’t wait. It might be my only shot. After pressing the button that takes me to the garage floor, I pull out my phone. Bringing up my text messages, I hit Mila’s name and start typing.

LIAM:

You’re gorgeous, you know.

MILA:

Officer Dickhead.

LIAM:So damn feisty, little warrior.

MILA:

What do you want?

LIAM:

From you? Many, many things.

LIAM:Let’s start with your beautiful fingers palming my cock like they did last night.

Fuck, thinking about Mila’s hand on my cock has me hard as rock instantly. I adjust to my obviously tented slacks. Thank fuck I’m in this elevator alone.

MILA:And… blocking.
