“I never want to stop kissing you, Jude.”

He smiled so brightly that I needed sunglasses. Giggling, we both turned toward the door when we realized Topher had been gone longer than he’d said. A pit formed in my stomach.

“Should we go and look?” I asked, pulling out my phone.

“He said not to.”

I dialed Atticus as I nodded. “What’s wrong?” he asked the second he answered.

“I’m a little offended you immediately go there,” I groaned, biting my lip.

“Imogen, how are you? How’s your date?”

“Topher went to check it’s clear, but he’s been gone a long time. I didn’t want to walk out there.”

“Good thinking. I’ll call you back in a second. Don’t go anywhere.”

“We won’t,” I snapped, not liking that he assumed the worst when we’d done what we were supposed to all night.

“He’s going to call someone,” I said to Jude when I hung up.

“I think I see him,” Jude said, peering through the small window. “Come on.”

“We should wait,” I started, but the door was already opening. When I saw Topher standing by the car, I relaxed, realizing it was safe.

He spun when he heard us, panic on his face. “Stop, don’t come any further.”

I noticed something at the foot of the car. No, not something, someone.

“Wait, is that…” Jude said, the coloring draining from his face. Turning to him in shock, I panicked about what to do. Not once in the teen movies had a date ended with a dead body.
