I nodded, no longer able to find words. She leaned closer at my movement, her eyes closing, and I followed suit. When our lips met, it felt like the earth aligned, and everything finally made sense. Or at least while our lips were pressed together.

Imogen pulled back after a few seconds, fluttering open her eyes, and we stared at one another for a while, just watching.

“That was nice,” I finally found the words to say.

“Yeah.” She smiled, taking my hand.

“Immy, I uh, I like you a lot. As more than a friend, and I wondered…would you be my girlfriend?”

She rolled her eyes, kissing my lips again quickly. “Duh. I don’t kiss everyone.”

She sat back, leaning into me, and I relaxed as we held hands. We didn’t talk the rest of the way out to Wells’ house, but we didn’t need to. Imogen and I understood each other in a way I hadn’t ever with anyone else. We were both victims of our circumstances, making us survivors. We didn’t need to talk because sometimes there were moments where words weren’t needed.
