“Nat was telling me that you’re being blackmailed?”
The matriarch sighed, realizing Loren wasn’t one to let it go. I admired her attempts to keep us out of it, showing me she wasn’t accustomed to asking for help. She didn’t know Loren, though. If someone needed something, she’d do whatever she could to help them. It was just who she was.
“Yes, by my daughter, actually.”
Muttering went around the table at that, and I wondered what all she’d done to these people.
“I believe that Pixel, Cami, and I could do this, Lor. Selena doesn’t know us, and we could be in and out with our skill sets combined. With the blackmail lifted from them, the O’Sullivans would be freer to help us.”
Loren looked back to Brianna, gauging her. “What’s she holding over you?” she asked, taking a bite.
I placed a bit of food in my mouth but was too busy to taste it. I was more focused on the conversation and understanding the risk.
“My late husband, the former boss of the O’Sullivans, was not a nice man. For many years, I turned my head at his philandering ways, keeping myself safe. When he was occupied with his mistresses, he left me alone. I know that isn’t right, but years of abuse left me too weak to stop him or care. He spoiled Selena, giving her everything she wanted. I thought it was okay. As long as she was happy and not being used, then at least one of us would make it. When I learned my husband had moved on to the younger females of the family, I couldn’t stand by any longer. So, one night I poisoned his food and then fed him to the pigs on the farm.”
She said it so matter-of-factly that I had to stop and make sure I heard her correctly. In fact, I practically choked on the bite of food I’d just taken when it processed. I looked down at my meal, wondering if we were about to suffer the same fate.
Her cackle rang out, along with the rest of the family around the table. “Oh, dear, you have nothing to worry about. I don’t kill to just kill. He was a rotten man and needed to go.”
Loren squeezed my leg under the table, and I cautiously picked up my fork. “How is she blackmailing you then?”
“The mistake I made was allowing Harvey to spoil her. She became her daddy’s daughter and saw no wrong with what he did. Our family was divided then, the ones who didn’t see anything wrong with what Harvey was doing, and those who did. She took the half of the family that sided with Harvey, making us pay a monthly fee in order to keep our secret. Everything we do, everything we get, it mostly goes to her. This house is all we have left, and I fear she’ll soon try to take it. She’s a tyrant and needs to be stopped. The only thing she has against us is a recording. If we got the recording, we’d be free, and Selena wouldn’t be able to survive without our monthly dues. Right now, we’re weak, but if we had her off our backs, we’d be a force to be reckoned with. The O’Sullivans are strong and resourceful. We can help you in your fight.”
Loren looked to Cami and Nat. “It’s your decision, ladies.” Cami looked back and forth between Nat and Loren. Nat had a pleading look on her face, and I could tell Cami would give in, before she did. Sighing, she nodded.
“Okay, I’ll come out of retirement. We’ll just need to get a hold of Pixel and see if she’ll be back soon.”
The table seemed to let out a collective sigh at the news, the chatter starting up again as everyone returned to their eating. We didn’t stay much longer, saying our goodbyes once we’d eaten. As we walked out to the car, I stopped Loren for a minute, needing to say something before we had an audience.
Leaning forward, I heard her breath hitch as my lips touched her neck. “You were sexy as Hell back there, Spitfire. When we get home, I think it’s time I pay my respects to our Queen.”
Stepping back, I adjusted my cock as I slid into the car. I watched as she took a few seconds to gather herself before walking over. Her steps were full of swagger as she opened the door and got in.
Buckling her seatbelt, she glanced over, licking her lips. “How quick can you get us home?”
I made it back in a record thirty minutes.
