“Don’t get used to it. I’m mostly an asshole, and I’ll always dominate you.”
“Oh?” Loren raised her eyebrows, a challenge forming there if I’d ever seen one. “Well, I guess that’s something we’ll have to see about then, hmm?” She straightened my tie, trailing her fingers over my neck, and then dragged her fingernails down my shirt. Pulling me closer with my belt loops, she placed her lips at my jaw as she spoke, brushing against my stubble as she did. “Try not to stare too long at my ass while I walk away.” She kissed my jaw, and I watched, stunned, as she pivoted and walked away.
Almost as if pulled there like a magnet, I found my eyes seared to her ass as it swayed, and I gulped. Loren was showing me she wasn’t scared to tangle with the likes of me. I needed to show her who I really was. Then, we’d know.
Stepping forward out of the dark, I peeked around the corner and watched her walk all the way back to the booth. Before she sat down, her head glanced over her shoulder, right into my eyes. The smile she had on her face was smug and all too sexy. Loren winked and sat down, falling back into the conversations at the table.
“She’s something else, isn’t she?” Sax asked, surprising me from behind. Looking over my shoulder, I eyed him. “How long were you listening?”
“Long enough to hear her remind you that you could be more than just ‘The Suit’ and that she’s not what you’re used to. Loren’s going to turn your world upside down in the best way, and part of me just wants to pull up a chair, grab some popcorn and watch. But I also can’t wait to jump into the deep end with you, my friend, and ride this crazy train all the way to forever station.” Sax smiled a toothy grin, the look so uncommon on his face, I didn’t recognize him for a second.
“Forever? Don’t get ahead of yourself there, Sax. She surprises me, but there’s still tonight and the benefit to get through first.”
“Nah, you’ll see. The package is in play. There will be a status update soon on Little Red.”
He patted me on the shoulder, walking over to the booth. Sax reached down when he made it, pulling Loren up into his arms in a smooth move and sitting down with her in his lap like it was so natural, he didn’t even have to stop to think about it. It was something I envied about him.
Forever felt like a long shot with our current enemies, and the update our plan had moved forward only made me slightly less anxious it would blow up in my face. What was the point in forever, when forever could end tomorrow? Sax could dream of a forever for both of us. I’d make sure we lived to get one.
