Loren froze in the entryway, her face going white as she took in the guests talking. Her focus was on some dickweasel chatting with a rail-thin blonde with balloons in the place of boobs. An older guy was next to the blonde and looked bored as his date flirted with the asshat. He was browsing his phone as the other two talked. As her bitch of a mother took a seat, the first man turned to us. Loren looked like she might retreat, so I squeezed her hand, reminding her I was here with her.

It was a complete happenstance I'd run into her earlier, but I was glad I did. I'd been lost in my head thinking about the events of Friday night and how lost I felt. Atticus and I had always told one another everything since the day I came to live with him. We were brothers. The past two days, he'd felt like a stranger, and I didn't know how to do this.

I'd been out, touching base with family members in the area, or at least that was the excuse I'd given to leave the house. In actuality, I'd been walking in a daze, hoping to clear my head of the chaotic turmoil I was experiencing. Bumping into Loren had been kismet.

When she'd asked me to attend a dinner party in Glenview, I'd been doubtful. It sounded like a bore, but her mischievous smile had won me over. I was curious about her and who she was outside her office. The fight the other night had been electric, and I wondered if that chemistry was natural or only a by-product of the environment. Based on our little tit for tat on the stoop earlier, I'd say it was palpable between us.

Being interrupted by her mother hadn't been the ending I wanted. For the second time in a week, I found myself wanting to punch a woman. The way Jacqueline Hanover spoke to her brilliant daughter told me everything I needed to know about her. She was the classic elitist bitch who thought her shit didn't stink, and everyone else was beneath her. Throwing her off with a kiss on her hand, as much as it pained me to do, was at least entertaining. The woman had probably never been properly touched by a man, resulting in some of her icy exterior.

When Loren remained frozen in the front of the room, I wrapped an arm around her waist, pulling her into me. Her body melded to mine, and I soaked in the sensation of having her this close to me. If her parents weren't in the room right now, along with whoever this asswipe was, I'd throw her down on the couch and finally give her the treat I'd been promising for weeks. My face buried in her sweet cunt.

Directing her toward a seat, I avoided the guy sending death glares my way. It was comical, and I rolled my eyes at his face. This corporate pansy wannabe thought he was intimidating. I'd laugh if it weren't so pathetic. I could kill him with my pinky in more ways than he could even think of. Using my asshole persona to my advantage, I ignored his death glare as I shifted my hand lower on her hip.

The room was quiet as we entered, and I wondered who the fuck these other guests were. The rudeness protruding from them amazed me, though. Taking Loren's willingness as consent, I pulled her along and sat on the sofa, dragging her into my lap and draping her across. Shock displayed across her face as she looked up at me.

"Time to shake things up, spitfire."

My words had her smiling, and some of the fire returned to her eyes. She stayed on my lap and turned her head to face her parents, crossing her legs as she did. The dress she had on was the perfect combination of her own style. It was classy but dared on the side of danger with little flares of sex. The deep red suited her, and it reminded me of the lipstick she'd worn Friday, the one I wanted wrapped around my cock.

At the thought, I felt myself begin to harden beneath her ass. My hand on her thigh rubbed small circles, slowly inching her skirt up. As I contemplated how far I could push up her dress, the room remained quiet. Everyone focused on us. I was about to give them a show they apparently felt they'd paid admission for when the dicknozzle spoke.

"Who the hell is this?"

Loren tensed at his words, yet her face remained passive. She was draped over my legs, her back in the crook of my arm as she leaned against the armrest. Spitfire turned her icy stare to the asshole, and for once, I was glad not to be in her line of sight as she stared him down.

"That's none of your business, Brian. You lost that privilege a year ago. Well, more like two, but who's counting?" Loren's voice was steady, and if I couldn't feel her pulse racing from holding her, I'd believe she was calm as a cucumber. Dismissing, who I now assumed was her ex, she addressed her mother.

"Mother, I'm not certain why my attendance is required for this evening. Brian and I are over and will never get back together. The ring on her finger also solidifies that. I doubt you're so cruel as to invite me to dinner with my ex-husband to celebrate his new engagement. Perhaps, though, you are. Why else would you tell me to arrive after him, dressed to impress, if not to humiliate me on some front?"

"Now, Loren. I'm sure there's been a misunderstanding. Your mother meant no—"

"That's where you're wrong, Father. I'm done tolerating her abuse. I realized tonight, even before this hellish fiasco, how little of importance I am to her. So, no, I don't believe there was any other reason for her to invite me here with him unless it was to embarrass me."

"Why would I need to embarrass you, dear? You do that all on your own. Parading around with someone like him."

"Someone like him? Do you mean someone who respects me? Someone who sees all the fire within me? Someone who thinks I'm worthwhile? That kind of person? Hmm?"

"Loren, you're being unreasonable and a bitch. I don't know what you're trying to pull, but if it was to make me jealous, it's not working," the douchenozzle scoffed.

"Give me a break, Brian. I wouldn't touch you with a 10 foot pole. There's no part of me whatsoever that wants to make you jealous. Besides, why do I need to make you jealous when I have him? Not to mention, I just stated I had no clue you were even going to be here until I walked in five minutes ago, so check your ego at the door, you arrogant bastard."

"Loren, now, there's no need to call names."

I assumed her father stated it as her mother shrieked at the language and fanned herself at the scene unfolding in her sitting room. The blonde and the older guy remained quiet, almost watching it like a tennis match in front of them.

Loren's breath came quickly now, and I could tell she was on the verge of erupting in rage. Standing in one move, I lifted her easily in my arms. A tiny squeak left her at the jostle, her arms going around my neck. I stood, facing toward the exit, wanting to get the hell out of this dungeon. Loren had been correct. It wasn't all it was cracked up to be. This house was worse than some of the crack houses I'd seen.

"Where do you think you're going?" Mrs. Hanover shrieked.

Not even stopping, I tossed over my shoulder, "No offense. Actually, all the offense, this place is a hellish nightmare, and if I spend one more second here, I'm liable to shoot someone. As I don't want to deal with cleaning up blood tonight since I plan to be balls deep in your daughter here, I figured I'd save us all the trouble and leave quietly, but if you prefer for me to stay… " I paused as I waited, their looks of shock laughable as their mouths dropped open. "Yeah, that's what I thought."

Loren's laugh at my statement encouraged my caveman tendencies, and I continued right on walking out of the house. No one else even tried to stop us as they sat mouths agape, watching us leave.

"That was the sexiest thing I think I've ever heard. I don't even mind you acting like a neanderthal and carrying me out of there. In fact, I think I want to travel this way from now on," she teased, not knowing I was on board with this plan. I'd carry her to the ends of the earth if it meant I got to hold her in my arms and fuck her brains out. I was romantic like that, after all.

"Did you see their faces when you joked about killing people? I thought my mother was going to faint!"

"Who said I was joking?"
