“I love it here,” Ella murmurs softly. It’s a good thing. She’s spent hours decorating the nursery, making sure each detail is perfect. And a small fortune. Kam is still in charge of the funds, though, and according to him, she is set for life and can spend multiple small fortunes. The two of them ganged up on me to let her have the nursery she wanted. After all, this baby will be our first and only.
Down below on the street, a car moves down the road. In front of our house, the driver brakes and pulls the car to the curb.
“Oh,” Ella says. “I’m not dressed … and that’s Damon’s car.”
I almost disagree with her, saying it’s just the same car as Damon’s, not actually his. He doesn’t have any reason to be here right now.
But then he steps out of the car, slams the door behind him, and jogs toward us. He barely glances around him, totally focused on getting to the house. The doorbell will ring any second.
“Get dressed.” I press a kiss to Ella’s forehead. “Looks like something’s going on.”
I don’t tell her my brother said yesterday there may be trouble. I don’t tell her he said something happened between a client and someone on the team. I barely skimmed his email; I haven’t even opened the documents yet. But given that Damon’s here … I’m guessing he did something he shouldn’t have.
The End
