Trek

My hands are bloodied and bruised, but that doesn’t stop me. I keep throwing punches until his face is unrecognizable. Then and only then do I stop. His body drops from Drake’s grip, falling to the floor. I bend over the body and check for a pulse, thankful when I don’t find one.

“He dead?” Rage asks.

“Yeah, he’s dead.”

“Are we happy about that?”

“Why wouldn’t we be?” I ask, confused why he’d even ask me that. Of course, we wanted the fucker dead. He’s a part of the trafficking ring we’re working on dismantling. Anyone involved in that shit deserves to die, but most of all, the man who runs it. If only we could get that close.

“We don’t have any other information,” Rage reminds me. Shit, it’s not like he was going to open up and have a friendly chat with us about what he’s been doing anyway. I shrug my shoulders and crack my neck from side to side before walking away from the body.

“You just gonna leave that shit here?” Rage asks.

“Yeah, tell Badger to clean it up,” I tell him. He flips me off, and I let out a chuckle as I pull a cigarette from my pocket and put it between my lips. I light it up before blowing smoke into the air.

“What’s with you lately?” Drake asks, taking my cigarette from my hand and bringing it to his.

“Nothin’. Why?”

“You just seem off lately. Like shit’s gettin’ too heavy for you.”

“I have sisters, brother.”

“And you’re scared for them?”

“I’m scared for the dumbass motherfucker who comes near them is more like it. I’ve taught them how to fight. I have no doubt they can handle themselves if it came down to it.”

“You think so?”

“Yeah, I know so. They’re tough bitches,” I chuckle as I say the words.

“Heard that. Got a few of them I’m workin’ with,” he adds.

“Might not be a bad idea to get them in here to work with you,” I suggest.

“I wouldn’t mind it. Get the girls here, and we’ll get them a little more practice in. Little extra never hurt anyone,” Drake says before I snatch my cigarette back. I inhale the nicotine into my lungs, blowing a cloud of smoke into the air.

“How’s everything else?” he asks.

“Fine. I just don’t like this shit bein’ so close to home. My sisters are always out and about, man. Anything could happen.”

“I know. I hate it too, but we’re workin’ on it, yeah?”

“Is it enough? What we’re doin’?”

“What are you two talkin’ about? Don’t you have information to get?” Demon asks as he walks over to where we stand.

“Nah, Trek killed the fucker. Impatient bastard,” Drake mumbles.

“You killed him?” he asks, looking over at me.

“He didn’t leave me much choice. He wasn’t talkin’.”

“Well, he sure as fuck isn’t now!” Demon roars at me.

“Sorry, Prez.”

“Fuck that. Go out and find me another one, Trek!”

“Where do you want me to find another one right now?”

“I don’t give a shit. You’re the one who killed the asshole. Now you’re gonna find me another one to question.” His anger is palpable. I probably deserve it, though. Demon did say to leave him alive for a while, but I ignored that little fact and handled things my way.

“You think they’re gonna talk? None of them are gonna say shit, Prez. They have a brotherhood just like us,” I remind him. You won’t get anything out of those fuckers much like you won’t get anything out of us.

“I didn’t fuckin’ ask you that, Trek. I said I wanted to talk to the asshole, not bury him.”

“Doesn’t matter anymore; he’s dead,” Drake adds his two cents.

“No one asked you either, motherfucker.”

“Never do, but I still told you what I thought. Either way, we were gonna kill his ass. Trek just got there first,” he adds.

“What the fuck is it with you two and killin’ people? Huh? We need a goddamn intervention or some shit?” Drake and I bark out a laugh as Demon gives a stern look.

“Okay. I’ll find you another. Fuck.”

“I know you will. Get your ass on it,” Demon snaps before he turns around and walks away. I can see him stomping mad from here. I should feel bad for killing the prick, but I don’t. I know he wouldn’t give us any information, and keeping him alive any longer would have been a waste of my time.

“You’re in trouble,” Drake states.
