She doesn’t give me a chance to reply, she just hangs up. If it wasn’t for her, I’d take my chances and kill this piece of shit. I don’t know what his game is, but right now he’s fucking winning. He’s got me by the balls and there’s nothing I can do but let him lead me by them.
I light a cigarette as I look around. I’m on high alert. I trust no one, but a dirty federal agent is more dangerous than anyone. He’s got the law and outlaws on his side. It’s a fucking bad situation.
Headlights appear before Gillian’s car, but a minute later she’s stopping in front of me. I get in the passenger seat and she doesn’t even look at me.
“Thanks, baby girl.”
She pulls away and after a few minutes she sighs and glances at me. “Do I wanna know?”
I grin, reaching over to squeeze her shoulder. “You can’t,” I whisper.
“I’m just good enough to wake up in the middle of the night, right?” she says, angrily.
I scrub my face and groan. “I’m out of options here, Gillian. If I tell you anything you are now involved and I can’t promise you the protection I have secured for you. But you are the only one who knows this agent is around, so against my better judgement I asked you for a ride. If I called anyone else the shit storm that followed could be deadly. Don’t you get it? There’s no fucking winning for me here.”
She’s quiet and I know she’s thinking it all through. She likes to go silent when she’s deep in thought. I used to intrigue me, but right now I wish she’d stop.
“I’d deny knowing anything. You need someone to talk to, Riley,” she whispers.
“It doesn’t work that way. I’m handling shit.”
She gives a humorless laugh as she stops at a red light. She turns her head to me and tries to search my eyes in the dark car. “Do you have any idea how fucking scared I was coming to get you? But I did it. It’s always that way with you, isn’t it?”
“Always what way?” I ask.
“You hide shit, keep all emotions locked inside.”
I shake my head, looking at the light as it changes to green. “I keep my emotions locked inside because they’re mine to fucking deal with. You walked away from me, baby girl. You can’t have it both ways.”
“You’re right,” she says, pulling into my driveway. She turns to face me, twisting her hands between my legs. “I walked away because I don’t think I can ever forgive you for Rachel. My feelings for you haven’t changed and sometimes, like when you call in the middle of the night, needing me, I let my feelings takeover. But you’re right, I can’t have it both ways, so this is it. Don’t call me. Don’t stop by. Handle your shit and I’ll handle mine.”
I nod as I open the car door. “This is all for you, baby girl, so I will handle my shit.”
I grab my keys out of my pocket and climb onto my Harley. I’m physically and emotionally exhausted. Between Gillian and agent dickhead, I’m being torn in two. There’s nothing I can do now, though. I need to get this money dropped off.
I pull out right behind Gillian, but when she turns right, I go left. I know the motel well that I’m to drop this money off at. I’ve had my cock ridden countless times there. It’s cheap and close, but it makes me wonder why anyone else would stay there. It makes me wonder who I’m dropping this off to. If it’s someone who knows me shit is about to get really messy.
I pull into the parking lot and head to the room that I’m instructed to. I could be shot, killed, held hostage. Who the fuck knows what this dirty dick has planned for me. I knock and when there’s no answer, I bang on the door.
“Slide it under the door.”
I want to toss out a joke or call him a pussy for hiding, but neither would benefit me. I slide the envelope under the door and walk away.
How much more am I going to need to do until this shit ends?
I head home, crashing as soon as my head hits the pillow. When I wake up early to meet this fucker, I’m exhausted both mentally and physically. I hop on my Harley and head to meet with the agent.
I’m in no mood to deal with this prick and he’s late which pisses me off more. I lean against the building and look around. It’s becoming all too familiar being here. That’s a fucking problem.
He pulls in and parks next to where I’m standing. He gets out and slides his sunglasses over his eyes.
“You’re fucking late,” I bark out.
“You did good last night.”
“Fuck you, I’m not trying to impress you.”
He laughs as he pulls out some paperwork. It’s the documents he signed to keep Gillian out of everything. My blood boils as he hands them to me.
