Whereas I felt like a soggy, wet towel that someone had left out in the rain.

Coincidentally, most of the team was also treating me like that towel.

I guess I couldn’t really blame them. From the outside, they saw me giving up on a good guy.

Part of me wanted to scream out the real reason.

Tell them exactly why I’d left.

But, I couldn’t do that to Trey. Even though we hadn’t been together long, I still couldn’t out him like that.

If he wanted the world to know about his problem—he’d have to tell them.

Of course, with the amount of denial he was currently in—that was extremely unlikely.

If he wasn’t ready to admit it to himself—he certainly wouldn’t admit it to anyone else.

“Have a nice night,” I said to Trey and the fuzzy puppy. She tried to jump out of his arms—and it made me feel so guilty.

I turned and rushed to my door.

“Lexi, come on,” Trey complained behind me, “stop with this bull already.”

I took a deep breath and ran into my apartment.

A short time later, I heard a gentle rap on my door.

Skeptically, I tiptoed to the door.

If it was Trey—I wouldn’t answer.

If it was Gigi—well, I didn’t know what I’d do.

Luckily, it was just Jillian.

“Hey, are you ready?” she said in a cheery tone. Her smile looked genuine and—gosh, I was lonely.

“I have to eat. Do you want to come in and I can make something?” I hoped she’d take me up on my offer.

It would be a nice change to have someone around to talk to instead of these same four walls.

“Too late,” she grinned, and pointed toward her place, “I made food already.”

I locked up and walked with her across the courtyard.

When we passed by a group of players sitting and chatting—they suddenly stopped.

Gosh, it was freaking uncomfortable being the outcast.

“Don’t mind them,” Jillian whispered to me and grabbed my arm. She pulled me to her door.

Once we were inside, I felt immediately at home.

First off, Jillian always played great music. She had Jann Arden’s, “Could I Be Your Girl” playing.

It made me homesick to listen to her, but I did it anyway. Where I was from, Jann was a hometown hero.

She was also talented, strong, beautiful, and completely hilarious.
