His former co-host, Lola Lopez had been canned late last season for protecting one of our own—Lexi Hunter.

Her departure had been dramatic—to say the least—and it filled the gossip platforms ever since.

We’d wondered if the show would replace her, but from the looks of it, Marco was going solo.

“Good evening, Hockeyland!” Marco yelled to the studio audience and everyone tuned in for tonight’s episode.

“Who else is crazy excited for this next season to begin?” he asked, and the studio audience clapped and hooted enthusiastically.

“Yes! Me, too. Our women’s team did amazingly well. Going all the way to capture the cup! Our men didn’t fare as well, however.”

It had been a disappointing year for the men. With injuries, and Trey being sent down to the minors—they suffered greatly.

Our women’s team was fantastic, though. Having Lexi onboard helped cement our fate.

“You all remember the difficulties that Trey Turner had last year, right?” Marco asked with a dramatic twist of his head.

“Well, I’m excited to announce that Trey Turner is—” Marco swept his hand toward the giant screen behind him, “back!”

Trey shot into view, live and in color. My eyes got all teary seeing him on TV.

Smiling.

Happy.

One hundred percent, Trey.

“Trey, I have to say—I like how that jersey looks on you, bro,” Marco said to him.

Trey responded with an even bigger smile. “It’s great to be back, Marco.” Trey tugged on his Las Vegas Angels jersey. “I can’t wait to get out on the ice with my team again.”

“Welcome back, Trey, you were missed,” Marco said and then they talked briefly about the start of the season.

Marco cleared his throat. “And, we do have some other exciting news today. Breaking news on the Angels’ team front. I am proud to announce that as of noon today—the Las Vegas Angels acquired winger Cash Clemens!”

My heart stopped.

Actually stopped.

What did Marco say?

All I heard right now was a constant buzzing noise inside my head.

“Oh, boy,” Niki said as she turned around almost in slow motion to me.

I stared at her surprised face.

“Holy shitballs,” Lexi said beside me, and my head started getting that floaty, woozy feeling.

“I was just going to say that,” I heard Gigi’s voice say from my other side.

Niki turned back around, and I looked up at the TV screen.

“Cash, let me be the first to welcome you to the Las Vegas Angels,” Marco said while the camera panned back to show Cash sitting beside Trey.

Cash in an Angels jersey.

Which meant he’d be playing here.
