“Thank you, so much,” Lexi said to the guy and handed him a tip.
“No problem. Have a good night, Mrs. Turner. And Mr. Turner,” he said before turning quickly around and walking away.
Lexi shut the door. “I wanted it to be a surprise. I was going to carry her up to you in bed.”
I laughed at her pouty face and leaned down to kiss her. “You gave me plenty of surprises in bed tonight,” I said, then looked into her eyes, “Mrs. Turner.”
A huge smile crossed her face, and I kissed her again. “I like the sound of that.”
“Me, too.”
I let the puppy down onto the floor to explore, and she ran off.
“I flew here with her and found a good doggie daycare nearby. If you think you’re up to it—she can stay here with you when I go back.”
I felt a burning in my chest, right behind my heart.
Christ.
This woman.
“I’m up for it. But won’t you miss her?”
She bit her bottom lip and nodded. “Yeah, but I had her the last thirty days. You didn’t. The daycare even has pick up and drop off if you need it. Besides,” she stepped into my arms, “you’ll both be back home in no time.”
I gazed into my wife’s beautiful eyes.
Christ.
How did I manage to get so lucky?
“I know you bought her for me. My brother spilled the beans.” I pressed my lips to hers. “Thank you, sweetheart.”
She kissed me, then gave me a small frown. “He was supposed to keep that a secret.”
I moved my head back and grinned at her. “He wanted to make sure I knew how wonderful you are. But I told him he was too late—I already knew.”
She smirked up at me with watery eyes.
Eyes that I wanted to look into every day.
Forever.
“I love you, Mrs. Turner.”
She stood on her tiptoes and kissed me. “I love you, too, Mr. Turner. And not just because you look great on my bedroom wall.”
I laughed and pulled her closer. “Yeah, but I do look pretty damn good on your wall. All five hundred of me.”
Her jaw dropped open. “There’s like, a hundred, max.”
I kissed her forehead. “Fine, all one hundred of me look amazing on your wall.”
She nodded. “Agreed. But you look even better in my bed.”
That made me laugh harder. “As long as you’re with me.”
Her eyes scanned my face thoroughly before she said, “Deal.”
