I turned just in time to see a towel and a pair of board shorts sail through the air.

My hands shot out and caught them.

He headed to the fridge. I noticed he’d already changed into his shorts. “Go change. I’ll grab some drinks.”

“You goingto tell me what happened?” Beau asked, then he took another bite from his short ribs.

He'd ordered Korean BBQ.

Mostly because his fiancée wasn’t here.

Gigi was a stickler for only eating homemade food—no takeout.

We’d have to toss any evidence into the trash before Gigi saw.

“She’s not your—”

I cut him off. “No, Mom and Wes were a thing a long time ago.” I moved over to let one of the jets hit a particularly sore part of my back.

I’d rushed out of the apartment so quickly, I’d forgotten my pills.

He chewed, swallowed, then took a large pull on his beer. “Right around the time you were a thing?”

“We’re not related,” I said with more than a hint of warning in my voice. “That’s what they came over to tell us.”

I stabbed some spicy pork with my fork. “Of course, first they had to mess with our minds, and make us think it was true.”

Beau tossed his head back, and let out a loud laugh. He shook his wet hair. “That’s hilarious.”

I stared at him in wonder. “It’s not fucking funny.”

He looked at me, then stopped laughing. “You’re serious about her, aren’t you? Otherwise, you wouldn’t give a shit.” His eyebrows raised. “Fuck me. Trey Turner’s in love?” His eyes squinted at me—like he wasn’t sure who he was looking at.

“It’s complicated.”

“It looks like it. Why don’t you start from the beginning and tell me what’s going on?”

When Beau and Gigi first started going out last year, we all thought it was real.

Beau finally admitted to me a while later that it wasn’t.

They’d been forced into a fake relationship—kind of like Lexi and I had.

Except Lexi and I had actually gotten married.

And slept together.

Beau and Gigi faked their relationship.

Until they didn’t.

As it happened, those two ended up being crazy in love with each other.

It really was just like a tale from a romance novel.

I tipped my beer bottle back and took a big swig. Then I said, “Only if you promise not to hit me again.”

He smirked at me. “Deal.”
