“Are you okay?” The true note of concern in her voice brought me back to reality.

Was I okay?

Currently, I lived with the hottest hockey player.

Ever.

The guy I’d loved from the safety of the stands—or my couch—ever since the first time I’d seen him play.

I’d met him and married him—all within a few hours.

And now, we were trapped in a secret platonic relationship.

But, in front of public eyes—we had to play the happy, committed couple.

“I’m great,” I lied to her.

She looked me over, and said, “If you ever need me to kick his ass, just let me know.”

“Thanks, Jillybean. You’re the best. If you want to stay after practice, I’ll show you some wrist tricks?”

“Excellent.”

“What are you doing? You promised to wait for me!” I shouted at Trey the second I stepped in the door.

He gazed up at me—guilt covering his face.

“I didn’t—I wasn’t—”

I scoffed at the big liar sitting on the couch. After I dropped my bag on the floor, I yanked the book out of his hand.

“What page are you—” I started asking, but my eyes caught onto something on the page.

Oh, crap.

“No!” I screamed and slammed the book shut. “Spoilers! Spoilers!” I collapsed onto the couch beside him.

I curled my body into a ball. “No, no, no,” I said in pure and utter agony. “I didn’t see what I just saw. Tell me they don’t break up.”

“Woman, why did you look?” Trey’s voice sounded from behind me. I felt the book slide out of my hand right before a set of large arms scooped me up.

“I didn’t mean to look. It just kind of happened,” I said in remorse, wishing I hadn’t glanced at the page.

“Besides,” I said into his chest, where he held me tight, “you promised you wouldn’t sneak ahead of me. You said you’d wait.”

“It was too tempting, Lex. I waited as long as I could, I swear,” he said into my hair, then kissed the top of my head.

“I don’t forgive you.”

His chest suddenly began to shake with laughter.

The big, giant, read ahead and then spoil the entire book for me, jerkface.

“I’m sorry, please forgive me? The book was calling for me—and you were late.”

I peered up at him. “I stayed after practice to help Jillian.”

“How’d practice go?”
