“So, I really hope that you won’t think I’m a total flake because of—what I did. I’m sorry for bringing bad press and attention to the team, and I hope you can forgive me. I promise to never do anything stupid like that again.”

I bit my bottom lip, then added, “Well, I guess I can’t really promise that because it seems like I’m always doing stupid stuff. But I promise to try super hard not to.”

I let out an exasperated breath and hoped like heck my teammates would forgive me.

“Forgive you for taking Trey Turner off the market?” Gianna asked with a deep frown on her face.

She glided up to me and stopped. “Never. I’ve still got posters of that boy on my walls at home.”

“Me, too,” half of the women on the ice confirmed the status of their bedroom walls.

A laugh bubbled up, and I couldn’t help but double over.

Because my walls at home were also plastered with Trey Turner posters.

“You and Gigi will have to type up some kind of handbook on how to capture the hearts of hockey’s greatest stars,” Gianna suggested, and the resulting volume of laughter raised the roof.

“You’re okay, Hunter,” Gianna said before she swatted me on the arm.

“Circle of friends!” Gigi called out, and I took a deep breath.

Gigi was always the captain of whatever team she was on.

Ever since she was little.

First off, because she was the most organized person in the entire world.

Not only would she organize the team and all their stuff, but she really dove in and made sure each one of the players was okay.

She gave a crap about their lives.

Not only in our lives now—but in the future.

Her biggest assignment was always each player’s ‘exit strategy.’

We wouldn’t be able to play forever.

That wasn’t something anyone wanted to think about.

It was just a fact.

But, Gigi insisted we discuss it frequently.

Normalize it.

Make it okay.

I mean, yeah, of course, it would suck major donkey balls when that day came.

Gigi just hoped with ‘adequate preparation, maybe it’ll suck a little less.’

Her words.

Gigi was way smart, and she cared about her players.
