I had to laugh to myself.

It was an ode to aging men everywhere.

A really, really great song.

Wes moseyed up to where Mom and Lexi were.

Then, before I knew it—he and Mom were dancing.

Fuck me.

My neck suddenly gave me a sharp pain. After I rolled my head from side to side, I popped one of my pills and swallowed it down with the last of Lexi’s drink.

I saw Lexi staring at our parents—then she immediately gazed over at me with wide eyes and a frown.

I had to laugh.

Then I slipped off my stool and headed toward the most beautiful girl in the room.

In any room.

Anywhere.

She smiled at me as I strode toward her.

Christ, Lexi Hunter was far and away the prettiest woman.

Ever.

But when she smiled?

No, when she smiled at me?

It made me feel like everything around us—stopped.

“Dance with me?” I asked once I got close enough. I took her hand in mine and pulled her further onto the dance floor.

Wes had chosen a country bar—of course. He owned a ranch in Alberta.

It was practically mandatory that he listen to country music.

I hadn’t fought coming here. Not at all.

I loved country music.

I’d grown up on a ranch.

Mom still owned it.

So, it was practically mandatory that I listen to country, too.

Lexi was a great dancer.

When we first met, we’d spent a ton of time on the dance floor—actually, on a ton of different dance floors.

We’d stumbled into many bars that night.

Before we’d stumbled into the wedding chapel, that is.
