Quentin and Angelique came up with that. It would be an opportunity for the show to get some shots in of the new ‘happy family.’

If Wes didn’t rip my head off at some point during supper, I’d call it a success.

Mom had rolled her eyes, and attempted several times to argue her way out of it.

But—no.

She was all but ordered to come along with us.

Me—and my balls—were not looking forward to going out.

It meant spending some hugely awkward time with our parents.

It also meant spending time with Lexi.

In whatever sexy outfit she’d decide to wear.

And Jesus if the woman didn’t have a whole damn closet of ball-busting outfits.

I knew this because most of my clothes now sat on the floor of my bedroom.

Because Lexi’s clothes had to be hung up.

I’d watched her hang up all kinds of short dresses and even shorter skirts.

Imagining Lexi in any of them had sent me right back to the gym.

“That sounds—horrible,” Isaac said, and that made me laugh. Mostly because it was too true.

“Lexi’s dad is the best—so is Trey’s mom. They’ll have a great time.” Gigi stuck up for my mom and Wes.

She’d known Wes for years. Gigi and Lexi had been friends forever.

After my accident, she’d met my mom. They still texted each other regularly.

That was my mom, though.

It was also Gigi.

Those two women were the most caring, in your face, bossiest of bossy females I’d ever met.

It made sense for them to gravitate to each other.

I wasn’t stupid.

I also knew they probably often discussed me, and my progress—or lack thereof.

I couldn’t blame them.

My accident had scared a lot of people.

Including me.

It would take a while for them to stop worrying.

Isaac lowered his voice, and said, “Good luck, man. I have the feeling you’re gonna need it.”

Unfortunately, I had a feeling he was right.
