“I didn’t say—” Beau started, then turned his head to Lexi, “Lexi, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to insinuate that about you. It came out wrong.”

She nodded, and said, “I know, it’s fine.”

I frowned first at her, then at Beau. “No, it’s not fucking fine,” I said, but Gigi cut me off.

“Trey, sit,” she said, gesturing at me. “Beau apologized. Lexi accepted. We have some things to go over before—” she said as her phone began ringing. “Ah, crap,” she muttered to herself. “Too late.”

Gigi touched the screen. “Hi, Angelique,” she said quietly, “they’re here.”

“Oui, I know. Tell them to come to us, as we’ve discussed, s’il vous plaît,” Angelique said in her French accent. Then the phone went silent, and Gigi stuffed it in her back pocket as she stood up.

“Angelique and Marcel want to talk to you guys at their house.”

Aww, shit.

The owners wanted to talk to us.

This was not good news.
