My eyes gazed up to his briefly. “Not everything, no. Just what I absolutely need.”

“What’s that supposed to mean?”

“I assumed you have kitchen stuff. Plates, silverware?”

He placed his hands on his hips. “I don’t want to be going back everyday to pick up your shit.”

“Then don’t. Who asked you to, anyway?” I said, grabbing onto my hips as well.

“Oh, for Christ sakes. What goes upstairs?”

He was clearly finished with this discussion. So was I. After I pointed to everything—and Beau swore again, because all of it belonged upstairs—there was a knock on the door. I knew who it would be, and I turned around and smiled.

I practically threw open the doors. “My babies!” I squealed, jumping up and down. “I missed you so much last night. Come out and see Mommy,” I said, taking a crate out of Trey’s hand.

“Hello to you, too, G,” Trey said, walking into the entryway. “Hey, Bro,” Trey said to Beau, shaking his hand. “Congrats on locking this one down.” Trey nodded at me. I rolled my eyes as I set the crate on the floor.

After I undid the latch, my girl baby came rushing out.

But not to me.

Straight to Beau.

“Hi, little lady,” he said, bending down to pick her up. “Aww, who missed her daddy, huh?” It was possibly the hottest thing I’d seen in—ever. The puppy was licking Beau’s face like crazy, and Beau was just taking it, letting her have the lay of the land.

Was it possible to be jealous of a puppy?

Yes.

Yes, it was.

“Gigi,” I heard my name called, so I turned around. There stood Dr. Barnes with the other crate. He shocked me at first. It was odd seeing him in casual clothes.

But one thing was certain—Dr. Barnes could also rock a pair of jeans.

Good grief.

It was hotness overload in this entryway.

“Here, take him for me so we can bring in your desk,” he said, handing over the other puppy.

“Desk?” Beau asked, his voice sounding confused.

“Yeah, my desk,” I said, crouching down to let puppy number two out. “I asked them to bring it when they dropped off the puppies.”

“I could have just bought you a new desk.”

My head snapped to his. He sounded pissed off, but I didn’t know why. “I have a desk. Why would I buy another one?”

“I didn’t say you were going to buy it. I said I would.”

“The desk is here, folks. Where do you want it?” Trey interrupted us.

“I’ll show you,” I said, then opened up the crate. Again, the puppy rushed out, but not to me.

Darnit.

“Aww, you missed me, too?” Beau said, scooping up puppy number two into his arms.
