“Psht. I’m not saying this to flatter her, ya git. I’m sayin’ it to help you. There is no high I have ever experienced that compares to the feeling of being worthy of my wife and child. Don’t fuck it up.”

Finn stood. Trevor made no secret of examining his scars.

“You’ve been to hell once, yeah?” Trevor asked.

“Yeah,” Finn replied.

With one hand on Finn’s shoulder and a look of profound understanding in his eyes, Trevor said, “Trust me. The return trip is worse.”

Both men were silent for a long moment.

“Sir? Mr. Roy,” Finn said.

“Who the feck are you speaking to, mate? I’m Trevor or Trev if I like you. You can call me Trevor.”

“Trevor, I’m going to marry Charlotte. Do I have your blessing?”

“Not a chance. But by the time she agrees? Maybe you’ll have convinced me. It took me most of my life to realize it’s not about the grand gestures but all the small, insignificant stuff in between. And that takes time.” With a harder than necessary clap on the back, Trevor Roy left the room.

By the time Finn followed, Trevor was sitting between Charlotte and Daisy on the living room couch. Auggie was standing in front of the rock star, shaking his hand.

Aiden came and stood beside his brother and watched the exchange. Then he passed over his phone with the picture of Charlotte and the text Finn had sent seven years ago. Aiden knocked Finn with his shoulder. “So, she’s the one, huh?”

“No,” Finn replied. “She’s the everything.”
