Chapter 20: Jessica
I couldn’t stop my heart from pounding at the thought of those two men being close to me. They scared me, I had to admit. The thought of them doing any of the things they’d threatened to do to me was terrifying, a real nightmare. May and Melody didn’t scare me personally, but the fact they had hired these guys showed me how serious they were about getting their hands on my money and disposing of me afterward. If they knew I was pregnant, I shuddered to think what else they might do.
I sat down with the other old ladies. They were asking me what was going on. I just told them I needed to draw those pictures for the guys. Not that I didn’t want to tell them more, I just wasn’t sure what I should keep to myself.
It wasn’t long until they came out of church. Ajax made a straight line for me. As he got to the table, he pulled me up out of the chair into his arms and kissed me passionately. I got lost in that kiss like I usually did.
When he let me up for air, he whispered in my ear, “Baby, don’t worry, we won’t let anything happen to you or our daughter. I promise. But it means no more leaving the compound until we catch them unless it’s to go to the doctor.”
I knew he thought I’d protest; however, I was fine if this is what I had to do to protect the two of us. I nodded. He yelled for a drink from Tate who was manning the bar. Then he sat down with me on his lap. I noticed the married guys all liked to have their women sit on their laps.
Zara hadn’t left yet. She was talking to the other ladies. Demon was watching her like a hawk. Slash came up to say something to her, and if looks could have killed, poor Slash would be dead, and he knew it. He just threw Demon a smirk. Demon was now sitting beside Zara. I noticed she snuck peeks at him when he wasn’t looking. I held back the laugh I wanted to let loose. These two would be fun to watch.
We’d been there for maybe an hour when the door opened and in came the bunnies. I wanted to groan. I hated how they made me feel, and to see Daisy always made me feel like shit. She made a point to always be checking Ajax out and when she saw me watching, she’d smirk. I wanted to beat her ass and I didn’t tend to be a violent person. I was shocked to see Daisy and Farrah come over to where we were sitting. All the couples were at the table, along with Zara, Demon, Joker, and Player. The rest were playing pool. April and a new one I’d heard called Kayla were with them.
I watched with an open mouth as April wrapped her arms around Demon from behind and bent down to whisper in his ear. Only she didn’t whisper. We could all hear her.
“Hey, Demon, why don’t we leave these people alone. We can have much more fun elsewhere.” He shrugged off her arms and gave her a death glare. I saw him shift a quick look at Zara.
As for her, she was doing a great job of keeping her emotions off her face, then she spoke up, “Yeah, Demon, you don’t need to stick with us. There’s nothing here you should be all that interested in. Go with her. Though I’d suggest if you do, make sure you wrap it. No telling what you might catch. If you don’t, I’d hate to see you at the clinic.” His face took on a look of horror.
April stood up and snarled at Zara, “Who the hell do you think you are, bitch?”
Zara stood up and sneered at her. “Just someone who doesn’t want to see someone catch something is all.” Then she turned to the rest of us. “I need to go. See you later. Jessica, I’ll call you in a few days to see how you’re doing. Call me if you need me. Bye.” She never even looked at Demon or a speechless April as she swiftly headed to the door.
Demon watched her with a look of longing on his face. April was looking at him and frowning. He looked at her finally.
“April, keep your goddamn hands to yourself! If I wanted you, I’d tell you. And I can tell you, I don’t.” She pouted as he got up and headed toward the door. I figured he was going to try and stop Zara. As he left and April stomped off, I glanced at the others. The guys were grinning and the ladies frowning.
Ace was the one to speak first. “I think it’s safe to say, Demon has fallen hard for the lady doc. Hope he can convince her to give him a chance.”
“Not if he’s got bunnies and other women hanging all over him. She told me she has no time for manwhores. Her words, not mine. Something about having had her fill of those to last a lifetime,” I told them. If Demon was still carrying on with women, no way she’d give him a chance. I had the feeling Zara had been badly burned.
I didn’t get to say anything else because Demon came storming back into the common room. His face was dark with anger. He cursed as he headed down the hall. I presumed it was to go to his room. The guys whistled and I exchanged knowing looks with the ladies.
We all silently decided not to discuss them more. The guys started telling us about wanting to have one of their club allies over for the weekend. Some club called the Ruthless Marauders out of Knoxville. Bull explained to us ladies he wanted to get to know them more without others around. They were a club that had initially befriended Terror’s club first.
This led to us discussing what to have for food. The guys were arguing about us cooking. They told us they would order food. Devyn and Jocelyn had newborns and Madisen was only three weeks away from having her baby. I thought it was odd they would do it so close to her due date, but what did I know?
Ajax was just as adamant I would not be doing it. I tried to argue, but he wouldn’t hear of it. He was trying his damn best to keep me from overtiring myself with the baby. I loved him for it, even if it did frustrate me. After a lot of back and forth, it was settled to bring in food from their restaurant in town.
The next hour we spent having a fun time just talking and teasing with the whole club. Demon didn’t come back out to join us. I was about to suggest we head to Ajax’s room, when my phone rang. I pulled it out of my pocket. It wasn’t a number I recognized. I answered it, wondering who would be calling at nine at night.
“Hello, this is Jessica.”
“Hello, Jess, are you feeling all safe and comfy with your biker friends? Tell Ajax I said hello.” Melody’s voice came over the phone. I gasped. This got everyone’s attention. I hit the speaker button.
“What do you want, Melody?” As soon as he heard her name, Outlaw jumped up and ran out of the room.
“I want what belongs to Mom and me. You should never have gotten all that money! It’s not fair. And we will be getting it, so don’t get too comfortable,” she laughed.
Before I could say anything in response, Ajax did. “I want you to listen to me, bitch! If you, your fucking mom or those two thugs you hired come near her, I’ll see you buried six feet under. She’s mine and I protect what’s mine,” he snarled.
“Oh, Ajax, so good to hear your voice, honey. Do you miss me? We had so much fun, didn’t we? You know, when you had me in that office. Surely, Jess can’t compete with me,” she purred.
I knew they hadn’t hooked up but hearing her say those things made me flash back to Johnny and Ricardo. My stomach flipped. He swore.
“You know damn well nothing happened, you whore. You could never compare to Jessica. And that’s what eats at you. You’d better leave, Melody, before it’s too late. Forget you ever knew her name. Stay the hell out of Tennessee or else.”
