“I do watch them, but I do it when he’s not home. I don’t want to make him watch something he doesn’t want to watch,” she said softly.
I squeezed her hand and leaned over to whisper to her, “I’ll watch anything with you, baby. I’ll like it because you do. You watch shit with me all the time.” Which was true. Who knew by looking at her, but this woman loved her MMA? She gave me a loving smile. The guys teased the hell out of me, saying I was a pussy. I flipped them off. The only ones who kept quiet were Ace, Bull, and Rebel. They knew the score.
She’d just handed off the last picture when there was a frantic knock at the door. Slash jumped up to see who it was. Everyone knew not to bother us when we were in here unless it was an emergency. When he opened the door, in came Tate and on his heels was Doc Newton. Demon jumped to his feet when he saw her and rushed around the table to her.
Her eyes flicked around to all of us. Her face was pale, and she looked shaken. He took her by the arm and led her to his chair, then he crouched down beside her.
“What’s wrong, babe? he asked.
“I’m sorry. I know you guys were having a meeting, but I thought you should know this right away. I just had a run-in not too far away from here.” We all stiffened. What did she mean by a run-in?
“What happened? Where were you?” Demon demanded.
“I was coming to check on Jessica. A couple of miles up the road, I came by a car parked off to the side of the road, half in the trees. I stopped, thinking maybe someone broke down. When I got out, two guys came out of the trees. They were acting weirdly. I asked if they were okay, and they said yes.”
Demon growled when she said two men came out of the trees. “Jesus Christ, Zara, you don’t stop for shit like that! You could have been hurt, raped, or killed by some psycho.”
“I’ll do whatever I please, Demon. I’m a damn doctor. Someone might have been sick or hurt. I wasn’t stupid about it! I had my gun on me. They didn’t touch me. But what they said made me wonder.” I could see him physically struggle not to yell.
“What else did they say?”
“They asked if I was from the area. When I said I was, they asked if I knew where the Warriors’ compound was. That they were looking for some friends. I knew if they were your friends, they’d know exactly where to go. Through those woods is where one of your walls runs through. I told them I had no idea. They gave me funny looks but didn’t say anything else. I told them I needed to get home and I left them. As I was driving away, I saw them get into the car and head back toward town.”
I looked around at my brothers. All of us had worried looks on our faces. Joker pushed the two papers Jessica had drawn toward Zara. “Are these the two guys you saw, Doc?” She looked down. A gasp left her mouth. We had our answer.
“Yes! That’s them. This one was the one asking the questions.” She tapped the picture of the one Jessica had said seemed to be the leader. My stomach clenched. They’d been that close to her! They were here and obviously looking for her or a way to get her. Jess gave me a scared look. Her face was pale.
I tugged her out of her chair and onto my lap. She laid her head on my shoulder. Doc got up and came over to her. She picked up her wrist. I could tell she was checking her pulse.
“These are the ones who took you, aren’t they?” she asked Jessica quietly. She nodded. “Fuck, I wish I’d known that, I would have shot their asses,” she hissed. Startled laughs rang out around the table.
Demon smirked at her. “Kind of bloodthirsty for a doctor, aren’t you?”
“The best doctors can make the best killers, just remember that, Demon. Don’t get on my bad side,” she warned him with a smirk of her own. This released some of the tension as all of us laughed, even Jessica. Zara turned back to her.
“Your pulse is up a little. Why don’t we get you lying down? These guys can finish their hen party without us.” We all protested as she helped my woman to her feet.
I gave her a gentle kiss before she left. We now had confirmation these clowns were here too. I glanced at Outlaw.
“Do you think you can find them with these sketches?”
“I can sure as hell try. They’re good. I’m going to ask Smoke if his facial recognition software can use these to search for them. We might luck out on finding where they’re staying. I know it has to be close.” With this decided, we talked about increasing the security around the compound. Guys would be on roving patrols. Jessica would not be left alone, not even at our house. She would also not be leaving the compound unless it was for a doctor appointment. Knowing we couldn’t do anything else right at the moment, Bull called our meeting to an end. I hurried to go check on her. I didn’t want this stress to affect her or our daughter.
