“I found where she drove through town, then nothing until I found her at the bus station. No ticket in her name, which means she paid cash. However, the only bus leaving around that time was one to Nashville. When she got there, she went to the mall. I caught glimpses of her going into a couple of stores, then nothing. It’s like she disappeared.”
“Could she still be there?”
“No. It’s been closed for an hour. I tried her phone, but nothing.” I held it up.
“Where did you find that?”
“At her apartment along with her car. Goddamn it! We have to find her! She’s out there thinking I betrayed her with her stepsister. She already had low self-esteem because of her. What in the hell do you think this is doing to her?” I half-yelled.
“Calm down. We’ll work on it. We will find her. In the meantime, you need to rest,” Bull said calmly. I went to argue, but Bull stopped me. “No, listen, when we do find her, you have to be in shape to go get her. Let us work on this for you. She’s as much part of our family as you are.” I reluctantly nodded.
I left them to continue searching for her. Their promise to come find me as soon as they found anything rang in my ears. I stumbled to my room. I crawled into the bed and hugged her pillow to my chest. I could smell her scent. Tears filled my eyes. I tried not to think about earlier being the last time I would ever get to hold her or see her. There had to be a way to find her and bring her home.
