I felt a moment of pride thinking of her knocking his ass out. Then I sobered, recalling how I’d left it with her back at the clubhouse. Bull leaned over him this time.

“Which bunny was it?” Jonah didn’t say anything. A part of me was impressed he was trying to protect her. Demon grabbed pliers from behind his back and yanked off a nail before he even knew what was happening. That’s all it took for him to break.

“It was April. She was friends with my sister.”

“Good. Now tell me, where were you supposed to take Madisen once you got her free. You had to have a way to get her away from here,” I snapped. I wanted to be done and over with this. I needed to talk to my woman.

“I have a car hidden down the road. As soon as I got her in it, I was to drive to the Horsemen’s compound.”

I hit him again. “You’re a dumbass! They had you taking all the risk, and they had to know there was no way you’d get away with it. They set you up. They had another plan. I assume they knew you were trying to grab her tonight, right?” He nodded. I looked at the other guys.

“They’re out there waiting to see the fire. My guess, they thought they’d be able to sneak in, most likely when we had to call the fire department. Tank, do the guys have any old lumber lying around we could burn. Enough to make a decent size fire?” He thought about it then nodded. “Good. Let’s get the guys set up and hidden. Bull, can you call Scarelli and have him send out one fire truck? Then we’ll wait to take their asses when they infiltrate the compound. We won’t get the majority of them, but we’ll get some. Maybe enough to make them worry.”

With this plan in place, we hurried to carry it out. Payne locked Jonah in the cell. We’d take care of him later. The same way we’d take care of April. While we got set up, I kept worrying about Madisen. I hoped she’d at least come out of the bathroom. I didn’t want to set her off again, especially when I couldn’t stay to talk to her. I sent a text to Jocelyn. She answered, saying Madisen was in bed sleeping. She hadn’t said a word.

The next hour was a blur. We started the fire, the fire department came, and we waited. It was kind of a letdown since it was too easy. Six of them crept in while the gate was wide open for the fire truck, ambulance, and police. They were taken without a shot being fired. Only Scarelli knew what was happening. The fire department got the fire out quickly and left. Several of the guys took our six new guests back to the Cellar to wait with Jonah. As soon as we were done, I headed back to my room. I needed to see my woman. I hoped we’d be able to talk and work this out. I couldn’t stand this for much longer.

I eased the door open. Jocelyn stood up and came to me. She whispered, “She’s been out for a while. She cried herself to sleep. I tried to get her to talk, but she just cried harder, so I stopped. Let her rest tonight and try again in the morning.” I hugged her and told her thanks. Closing the door, I looked at the bed. Madisen looked so tiny and lost curled up on her side of the bed. I hated going to bed mad at each other, but she needed to rest. No way, all that crying and emotions were good for the baby or her. I stripped and took a quick shower. When I was done, I laid down on my side of the bed and stared at the ceiling. I laid there well into the night, thinking about what I would do if I couldn’t win back my woman.
