Chapter 1: Bull

I looked around at the others in our bar, The Dark Angel. It was a typical Saturday night. The music was loud, people were losing themselves in the dancing, and the drinks were flowing. I wasn’t sure why I came here tonight, rather than staying at the clubhouse. Maybe it was because the guys had harassed me to death to come out and I was looking to break the boredom. The endless free pussy at the clubhouse, or even around town, didn’t interest me anymore. I’d spent years after losing my wife, getting my relief from the club bunnies and barflies. However, over the last couple of years, since my daughter, Harlow, had married, I didn’t see the attraction. I've been hooking up less and less. In fact, I hadn’t been with anyone in at least six months. I spent my time running the Hunters Creek Archangel’s Warriors MC as its president and enjoying my daughter and grandkids when they visited.

Things were starting to die down. It was close to closing time. I decided I'd head on back to the compound after this beer. As I was finishing it, Ace came up to me. Ace was the youngest member of my club. He’d been a prospect at eighteen and was now twenty-five. He nodded at my beer.

“You want another one, Pres?”

“Naw, I’m gonna head back to the compound as soon as I finish this one.”

“Okay, I’m ready to head out, too. I’ll ride back with you.”

It surprised me he wasn’t sticking around to hook up with one of the little hotties in the bar. Maybe he planned to go back and find one of the club bunnies. I downed the last of my beer and stood up. We waved at the few brothers still in the bar, then headed out to our bikes. After we got them started, we hit the road. We’d gone maybe two miles when up ahead I saw in my headlight a woman walking along the road in the dark. What the hell was a woman doing out in the dark, alone, at this time of night? She turned back to look when the light hit her, and she stepped further off the road. I slowed down and pulled up beside her.

In the headlight, I could see she was young, like in her early twenties at the most, dressed in jeans and a tank. Nothing too provocative, but even I could see she was curvy and beautiful. I shouted over the roar of our bikes, “Hey, sweetheart, what are you doing out here alone like this?” She threw me and Ace a scared look. I couldn’t say I blamed her. I shut down my bike and Ace did the same. She backed further away from us.

“Hey, sweetheart, there’s no reason to be afraid. You’re safe with us. We won’t hurt you. We just don’t want you out here alone. Where’s your car? Did you break down?”

She gave us another hesitant look, then responded, “No, my car didn’t break down. My ride left me.”

I threw Ace a look. Her ride left her? What kind of asshole did that? “They left you? Why? That’s a shitty thing to do.”

She grimaced. “Yeah, Tess wanted to go into the bar back there and hook up with some guy she met. I told her I couldn’t go in there and wanted to go home. She got pissed and said I could walk. So, I’m walking.” I could see she had some fire inside of her. Now that the fear was abating a little, she was showing her anger. I wondered why she couldn’t go into the bar.

“Why can’t you go in there? How old are you, darlin’?” Was she younger than my first impression?

“First, I’m not old enough. I’m only nineteen. Second, I didn’t want to be in there even if I could get in. I don’t want to deal with a bunch of handsy drunks.” As she was talking, I saw Ace checking her out. I couldn’t say I blamed him. She was gorgeous, though too young for my tastes. She had long, strawberry-blond hair and bright green eyes.

I laughed. “Well, that was probably a smart move. Why didn’t you call someone to come pick you up?” As I asked her that, I wondered if she might have no one to call.

She sighed. “I would have called my mom, but my phone was dead. I forgot to charge it before I left. I only live another five miles down the road. I can walk it.”

I shook my head. “No way will I let you walk another five miles in the damn dark. Get on the bike with Ace. Don’t let his looks scare you, he doesn’t bite. We’ll take you home. What’s your name, sweetheart?”

She hesitated a moment or two then said. “It’s Devyn. Thank you.” Ace threw her a wicked smile. She hesitated again, then walked over to him. He held her hand so she could get up behind him.

Once she settled on the back of it, I asked, “Tell me where to go.” She quickly rattled off directions to her house. I knew where we were going. It was a road I passed every time I went into town. I never knew it led to a house. We took off.

Several minutes later, we rode down a long lane and then pulled into the drive of an older house. It was small, like a cottage. The porch light was on. As we shut down our bikes and Ace was helping Devyn off his bike, the front door opened, and a shadowy figure stepped out. I heard the cocking sound of a shotgun. I froze, and so did Ace. A voice rang out, “I don’t know who you are but get the hell off my property before I fill you full of lead.” The voice was female and husky, but filled with steel.

Before I could say anything to reassure the mystery woman, Devyn spoke, “Mom, it’s me. They’re just bringing me home. No need to shoot their asses.” I could hear the exasperation in her voice.

“Devyn? What in the hell are you doing with two bikers? I thought you were with Tess. Get over here.”

I decided it was time for me to settle this situation down. The last thing I wanted was to be filled with lead. I was too old for that shit. “I’m sorry. We didn’t mean to startle you. We found Devyn walking along the road and couldn’t let her walk alone in the dark all the way home. We just offered her a ride. I swear nothing else happened. Hell, I’ve got a daughter older than her. She told us her friend abandoned her. My name is Bull, and this is Ace. We’re Archangel’s Warriors.”

I heard her sigh. “I’m sorry for the hostile welcome. We don’t get cars down this road, let alone any bikes. Thank you for bringing her home.” As she finished speaking, she stepped out the door and under the light shining on the porch. I forgot to breathe. Standing there was a slightly older version of Devyn. She had the same long, strawberry-blond hair and green eyes. Her figure was curvier. She was in a pair of shorts and a tank top. My mouth went dry. No way in hell this woman could have a daughter Devyn’s age! She didn’t look older than her late twenties to me. I felt my cock get semi-hard. Shit!

She came down the stairs. I noticed she was still carrying the shotgun. She came over and hugged Devyn as she kept her eyes on both of us. I scrambled to think of something to say to her. “Ma’am, excuse my butting in, but your Devyn needs to find another friend. She could have run into someone a lot worse than us.”

Her mom nodded. “I know. We’ll be talking. My name is Jocelyn. Nice to meet you two. Though why she didn’t call me, I don’t know.” She threw her daughter a frown.

“Mom, I forgot to charge my phone, and it died. Tess wanted me to go into that bar, The Dark Angel with her, and I said no. She told me I could find my own way home. I wasn’t about to go in there and ask for a phone, so I walked. These guys came along and convinced me it was safer to have them bring me home than to walk alone.”

Jocelyn shook her head and closed her eyes. “Devyn, I’ve told you…” She stopped and took a deep breath. “Never mind. We’ll talk later. I hope she didn’t take you too far out of your way.”

Ace responded, “No, ma’am. We’re just down the road about four miles further. We were happy to help.” He was still eyeing Devyn. I needed to have a talk with him. I wanted to make sure he knew not to fool around with this one. She wasn’t the fuck-buddy type. I could tell that. Looking at her mom, I could tell she wasn’t one either. But something in me wanted to talk to her more. I shoved that urge down.

“Well, we’ll be getting on our way. Take care, Devyn. And remember to keep your phone charged. If you need anything, we’re just down the road. Just give your names to the guy at the gate.” I didn’t know what made me add that last part. I just was reluctant to walk away, even if I knew it was for the best. Jocelyn gave me a shy smile and nodded. She and Devyn stood back and watched us as we rode off down the road. All the way back to the compound, I couldn’t get Jocelyn out of my mind. I went to bed thinking about her. There was no way a woman like her wanted anything to do with an old biker. And even if she did, she’d never be one who would want to have a one-night stand or a brief affair. Though with her, I didn’t know if one night would be enough. It was almost morning before I fell into a fitful sleep, dreaming about her face and that smoking hot body.
