Janet

It was getting late, the longer I waited by the back door, the more I wanted to walk away and never show my face around these parts again. When I had made the offer, I was feeling confident like nothing could stop me. Now my self conscious was starting to eat at me.

Checking the time on my phone, I blew out a sigh. My breath was visible, it was getting cold out. I then told myself that I would wait around for another five minutes before I’d call it quits. So after resting my back against the brick wall, I waited until it was time to go.

The door opened with only a minute to spare. The suddenness actually made me jump, I placed my hand on my chest in an attempt to calm my pounding heart.

When he looked at me, he looked just as surprised as when I sent the offer his way. Did he think I was joking? “You’re still here,” he even sounded dumbfounded. It was enough to bring a small smile to my lips.

Maybe it was worth waiting around for him. Crossing my arms over my chest, I fought the shiver that wanted to rock through me. “It’s really cold out, we should go.”

He cursed softly before gripping his jacket. “I didn’t even consider it, I’m sorry,” he apologized quickly as he took it off.

My brows rose as he offered me his coat. Were one night stands supposed to be this considerate? I was overthinking it, that was all. If only I knew I’d be out this late, then I would have come better prepared. Deciding that it wouldn’t hurt, I went ahead and accepted his offer. Wrapping his coat around me, my smile grew.

“Thank you,” I told him as I hugged the jacket closer to my body. Breathing in, I was hit with a wave of faded cologne. He smelled good.

As we began walking away from the bar, he looked towards me. “My place sound good?” he asked curiously.

Damn, I didn’t even think that far. I’d never really done this before, I didn’t want him to know that. Trying to brush off my inexperience, I nodded. “Sound’s good.”

I wondered if I always sounded this awkward. Following him through the few cars that were left in the parking lot, he stopped at one. I couldn’t believe I was about to get into a stranger’s car. Reminding myself that I needed to stop overthinking things and take a risk every now and then, I opened the door and got inside.

Just like his jacket, his car smelled like him. Leaning back, I closed my eyes momentarily as I breathed in. I found the tension in my shoulders released momentarily as he got in next to me. Thankfully, he didn’t seem up for conversation as he left the parking lot.

Opening my eyes, I turned to look at him. “You’re not secretly going to kill me, are you?” I half-joked. Maybe I should have been smart and told someone I was doing this. My nerves had already been shot getting me this far, I didn’t even think about the future of my decision making.

The corner of his lips rose as he chuckled, “I didn’t plan on it,” he seemed amused by the suggestion.

Biting my lip, I continued to look at him. Up close, I could see that he really was a handsome guy. Since we were going to his place, he had to have been single. I was curious, I couldn’t help but ask. “If you don’t mind me asking, do you do this often? I bet women flock to you.”

His smile dropped as he maintained his attention on the road, “No, I don’t like my job intertwining with my sex life.” He sounded serious, I doubt that he was lying. It just left me feeling more confused.

Before I could ask him why he had agreed to my offer, the car came to a stop. Looking out the window, I noticed we were at a house. That was quick, I barely even prepared myself. Sucking in a breath, I knew this was it. Once I got out of the car, there was no going back.

Turning back to look at him, I noticed him watching me. The way he was looking at me left my cheeks growing warmer. His eyes seemed to grow darker as if there was a hunger laying dormant within them. “We should probably go inside,” I suggested, my hands curling into small fists as I tried to calm myself down. I couldn’t remember the last time someone had looked at me that way.

“Right,” he then opened his door and stepped out, I followed to do the same. Stepping behind him, we approached his house.

Stepping inside, silence surrounded us. I wondered if he could hear my heart pounding in my chest. I was feeling even more nervous now. “Mason,” I whispered as if I was afraid to break the layer of silence. Through the darkness, I could barely make out the silhouette of his frame. I wanted to confess to him the truth. That being—I didn’t know what in the hell I was doing.

He turned towards me, I could barely make out his features but I knew he was looking at me. He had the same look that he had in the car. Pausing for only a moment, he took a step my way.

My lips parted as his name lingered on my tongue. For the first time in my life, I felt speechless. I didn’t know what I was supposed to do. My automatic response was to take a step back. But there was nowhere to go, the closed door was keeping me from running. All I could do was watch as he erased the space between us.

He reached out, cupping my chin with his large hand. Making me meet his eyes, I swallowed down the lump that was weighing heavy in my throat. “Janet,” hearing my name whispered sent chills running down my spine. Not because he knew my name despite me never telling him. It was the way it sounded so rich coming out past his lips.

Licking my own, I reached out and lightly ran my fingers across his chest. The tightness of his shirt showed me exactly who was in front of me. He was much larger, almost like a bear. The way he was touching me, he wasn’t ferocious but more like a teddy bear. He held such gentleness each time his skin made contact with mine.

The thunderous sound of my heart beating rapidly was silenced the moment he lowered his head and brushed his lips against mine. It was like an electric shock coursing through my body by just the brush alone. The moment he pressed against me fully, all the worries I had simply melted away.

I never could have imagined enjoying being pressed up against the door, sandwiched between it and his body. Just breathing in his cologne up this close had my head swimming as I relaxed against him. I could hardly focus as one of his hands slid from my face all the way down past my curves. The way he grabbed my hip as he tried to pull me even closer to him felt possessive.

Instead of feeling worried or scared, I was reacting to every single one of his touches. I was a melting mess. I couldn’t get enough of the attention he was giving me. The moment I parted my lips, I fought back the urge to moan as his own slid against mine.
