“Don’t worry, honey,” she whispered. “I’ll let you do your thing.”
Rux nodded, then planted a quick kiss on her cheek. Dana was amazed by how warm his lips felt, and she felt herself blooming red instantly. Rux sprinted along the darkened path with his body bent as much as he was capable of. Dana watched as he found himself at the shed, then waved her over. She ran over in the same way, much easier due to her smaller stature.
“He should be in here,” Rux whispered.
Dana nodded, straining against the shed as Rux used one hand to rip the metal chain off of the door. She felt her eyebrows rise, utterly impressed and even a little turned on.
Damn.
Rux opened the door of the shed slowly with two fingers, and Dana could only see the light cast over his face. His expression turned into a confused scowl, which made her fear rise in her gut once more.
“What’s wrong?” she whispered sharply.
She watched as Rux stepped into the shed, still crouched down, then stepped back out. His eyes were blazing with horror as he turned to face Dana.
“He’s not here,” Rux replied.
Just as Dana began to make another plan in her mind, she felt people descending upon them. Shadows threw themselves against the side of the shed, and Dana realized that they weren’t people at all.
Shifters are coming.
