Yes, there are issues here. But I will protect her. I will never let any harm come to her. Most likely, Griffin has good reasons for everything he has done, and poor Jennifer is just distraught. I know how horrible it is to lose your father.
Jennifer was clouded by grief, searching for meaning. He understood the feeling deeply and couldn’t blame her for it.
As Dana’s beautiful eyes blinked open and he watched her face come alive when she saw him, the joy in his chest overtook everything else.
“Good morning,” he said gently. “I made you some coffee. Would you like breakfast?”
Dana grinned, sitting up to take the steaming cup.
“Thank you, Rux. I can’t remember the last time someone brought me coffee in bed.”
“A crime,” he declared. “A complete tragedy.”
She laughed softly as she took a sip.
“When you’re ready to get up, I’ve got a surprise for you.”
“Oh?” she asked, her eyebrows bobbing up. He was enchanted by her every expression. He smiled.
“I want to show you the preparations I’ve made for our trip. If there’s anything I’ve neglected, let me know, so I can fix it. I want you to have a great time.”
Dana frowned, just a little.
“I’m looking forward to spending time with you. I just wish there wasn’t anything in the way. I’m so worried about Jennifer.”
“I know,” he said gently. “If there is anything going on with Griffin, I promise you, we’ll figure it out. Until we know for sure, we can only go forward on the information we have.”
She nodded, taking another sip of coffee.
“You’re right, of course. We’ll do everything we can. I trust you.”
The words made a warm glow bloom in his chest. Even if she had not been his mate, her good heart would have captured him and brought out his protective nature.
He put aside his negative feelings as he prepared to show her the holiday he had planned for them. They would be together in a beautiful, secluded place for an entire weekend.
This was his chance to show her what she meant to him, and he was going to seize it with both hands.
