I glanced up, and Amora stood near my door. A flattering colorful shirt hung on her torso with a pair of blue jeans that hugged her hips. She’d filled out nicely since I’d arrived here. Her amber eyes stared back at my blue ones; the M shape of her top lip made me want to walk up to her and rub my thumb over it, and across the bottom one as well.

I felt like I was sweating where I sat; my heart drummed in my chest, and if she would have had her wolf, I realized she would have been able to catch it.

Sarge paced the back of my mind as I continued to stare at that beautiful face of hers. I could not understand why she made me feel this way.

“Nolen? Did you hear me?” her sweet voice carried back to me.

“What? Uh, not really. I’m sorry, Amora. Tell me again,” I asked her as I stood up, straightening my T-shirt.

“They’re waiting on you. Downstairs at your party?” her eyebrow seemed to be flirting with me, along with her grin.

“I know. I... I’m not used to all of this, that’s all.” She always found a way to make me say more than I wanted when she stared at me with those gorgeous eyes.

“The mighty Alpha heir of Rhyolite pack afraid of a party?” she teased me, her face brightened with the smile that played on her lips.

“No. I’m not used to all this attention.”

“Well, get used to it, Nolen, you are going to be Alpha soon, and you are going to be in crowds and other large gatherings.” She continued walking around the room I had received when I’d arrived here, fingering my things in the space.

“Well, I guess it will be easier when my Luna is at my side.”

“She will be very blessed to have you as a mate. The moon goddess will bless you with a beautiful one, that is for sure.” Her eyes danced to the side mischievously as they roamed my form. She picked up one of my books from the shelf. It was a dark book, and there were a few scenes in there that I hoped she wouldn’t see.

“I’m afraid she will reject me.”

Amora sat the book down and came up to me. The pull to her was a little stronger than before. Her hands lightly touched my arms, and her eyes gazed up at mine through those long black lashes of hers. Goddess, you made her beautiful, I thought. Too bad this little minx wouldn’t happen to be my mate; I didn’t understand if I was falling for her or if this crazy thing with Sarge being with me made things all weird.

Amora gave me one of those mesmerizing looks when she glanced up at me through her lashes, making my breath quicken, and I lost myself in those eyes of hers. “If your mate is stupid enough to reject you, your second chance will prove true love exists, even among werewolves.”

“Amora, you realize second chance mates are myths.” My hands rested on her hips, her body flushed at my touch and her heart rate increased. I resisted the urge to pull her close to my form, because she was my best friend’s sister, and she had just turned thirteen.

“The Goddess would not pair you with someone who would reject you, Nolen.” She winked at me and smiled as her rapid heart began to settle back to its normal rhythm.

“She would if she is from my pack.”

Amora stepped back from me, admiration in her eyes. “Why, because you think she would be embarrassed? Look at you now, Nolen, all the she-wolves here worship the ground you walk on, along with my brother.”

Looking away from her. I stared at one of the other walls, even though I saw her out of the corner of my eye. “You don’t understand what they did to me.”

She started to respond, her eyes starting to water, when footsteps rang through the hall. I recognized his gait before he came to my door. I stepped away from Amora to a distance to be considered decent. She gave me a hurtful glance until Sawyer walked in, his face full of delight; he came up to me, clapping me on the back as he wrapped his arm around my shoulder. “You need to come on, man. Everyone is waiting on you.”

I looked back at Amora, and she gave me a grin before we went out the door.

Amora

After hearing the pain in Nolen’s voice about his pack, I believed I needed to do something. But like always, Sawyer was ruining things, and I couldn’t help but be sad for Nolen. When I first saw him three years ago, I couldn’t help but smile at him.

He used to be such a scrawny boy, but he’d seemed friendly enough. When he had made those boys give me my doll back, I’d been so excited that I had hugged him.

It’d felt right, it truly had, and as we got older, I sensed I needed to be with him, but not like the mate pull, because from what I understood about it, there was no doubt when you experienced the mate pull. Since the rogue attack, his appeal had intensified, but most of the she-wolves were also drawn to him.

I sighed and gazed around his room. He wasn’t like most guys with posters of naked girls on his walls. I mean, I had never seen his room at his pack, but from what he’d told me, I didn’t think he would put them on his walls at home. I walked out of the room, my hand caressing the book I laid on his dresser and went back down to the party. I noticed Sawyer had surrounded himself and Nolen with many of the she-wolves, and they hung on their every word.

I shook my head and went to my friends. They weren’t as bold as some of the other she-wolves but loved talking about Nolen and Sawyer. I could only handle them talking about Nolen to an extent. Hearing what they wanted to do to my brother grossed me out. I mean, why would you tell someone’s sibling what you wanted to do to them?

I walked up to them, smirking at their theatrics over the two alpha heirs at the opposite end of the room. “Hey, girls. Still over here pining for the hot alpha heirs?”

They all giggled, and Anna spoke up, her now purple hair bouncing in her ponytail. I swear the girl had some sort of ADD problem, but she was a good friend. “Girl, you know it! I would love to be one of their mates.”
