We’re fucking free.I smirk, even if it's only a little one because the events still shake me, but happiness is mingling in, easing out the sting.
Then it shatters.
“FUCK YOU, VIVIAN!”
Lonnie's scream echoes in the hall. I look over to see him struggling to break free. Life transforms to slow motion. I stand there and watch.
Lonnie shakes off two men. His hands cuffed. He charges. Each step amplified as he barrels for me. There's nowhere for me to go. Security scramble in the background, changing positions. Some are regaining their balance after falling.
Lonnie is so close now. His arms and hands raise above his head. I see a knife clutched in his grip. This one smaller than the one from earlier.
He’s going to stab me. But where will I go?
Then I hear Grant’s voice.
“STOP HIM!”
The only shout I’ve ever heard from him. It rings off the walls with a sonic boom and brings time back to the present. Everyone reacts. Me included.
I turn away, trying to shield myself from Lonnie, hoping my back won’t take too much damage.
Shots fire.
I scream.
Then I groan.
I begin to fall.
Then everything is black.
