“Are you kidding me? Watching you fall was the best time ever. You know I’d come back in a heart beat to watch that happen again,” she teases, grinning like a fool.
“I bet that made your night,” I tell her.
“Oh, it did. Trust me. I never thought I’d see the day that happened.”
“Don’t get your hopes up. Sky doesn’t want to see me,” I tell her.
“You can’t be that naive. You should have seen how you looked at her and how she looked at you. It was beautiful.” Banging on the door pulls my attention as I call out to them to come in.
I didn’t expect it to be him.
“Devon? What are you doing back here?” I ask. He looks between Darby and me before he speaks.
“We need to talk.”
“I don’t have any work for you right now,” I tell him even though I know that’s not what he’s doing here.
“You know why I’m here,” he says.
“We have nothing to talk about. She’s off-limits,” I almost snarl at him.
“She’s not. Sky’s falling apart, Justice. She’s a fucking mess.” His words break my goddamn heart.
“She isn’t my problem. Not anymore.”
“We both know that’s a damn lie!” Devon roars.
“What it is you want, Devon? Can’t handle your woman?”
“I can handle my woman just fine, but she isn’t mine, is she? I think we both know that.” Darby gasps and covers her mouth with her hand.
“That isn’t my problem.”
“I don’t know what the relationship was between you two. I don’t care to know. What I do know is she’s a mess. She’s falling apart, and Christy is worried about her. Whatever the hell is going on, you need to fix it,” he demands. I chuckle and shake my head.
“You don’t get to come in here and make demands, Devon. Now, I don’t know what the issue is, but you need to leave.”
“You do know what the issue is! It’s you and her. Something happened between the two of you, and now she’s falling apart. Fix it, Justice, before it’s too late.”
