“But only if they agree. No robbing ATMs to get the money.”

“Fair enough.” Nox handed Luca the key. “Why don’t you take a nap? I’ll go talk to the owner and see what they say.”

“How about I watch TV until you come back?”

“You think I’ll sneak off and rob an ATM?”

“No, I don’t.”

“Yeah, you do.”

“And how would you know that?”

Nox tipped his head at the ancient satellite disk dangling from the corner of the building.

“Okay, fine. I don’t want you to sneak off.”

“I promised I wouldn’t.” Nox reached behind Luca’s seat and picked up the windbreaker from the floor. “Here, put this on so you won’t get chilled.”

“With you, I don’t think I could get cold if I tried.”

Because the Anubis shared its strength, but Nox’s dick took it a whole other way.

Luca’s face reddened. “You’d think I’d have gotten over blushing weeks ago.” He laughed a little. “I mean after….”

“Either way, I’m good with it. But if I have a choice, I hope you’ll never stop.”

“Why?”

“Because it suits you.”

“How does blushing suit someone?”

“Because it reminds me how generous you are with your heart.” Nox fondled Luca’s bottom lip. “Including me.”

“I love you.”

“Yeah, but you don’t have to.” A realization Nox faced every day when he looked in the mirror. Luca not only didn’t have to love him, he had every reason not to.

Rain drenched the windshield. Just as fast, it retreated to a gentle mist.

“I think Mother Nature is telling me to hurry and get inside.” Luca reached for the nonexistent door release. “I can’t believe you broke that off.”

“Me either.”

Luca cranked the window handle. On the third rotation, the end snapped off. “Oh, for fuck’s sake.” He held up the knob attached to half the handle.

Nox tried not to laugh and failed.

“This isn’t funny.”

“I know.”

“Then why are you laughing?” The corners of Luca’s mouth curled.

“Why are you smiling?”

“I’m not smiling. I’m sneering.” Yet his eyes twinkled.
