“Of the light?”

“Yes, the light.”

“It’s light. What the fuck color is it supposed to be unless you’re talking about the colored lights at a club.”

Reese made a face. “I’m talking about—never mind.” He waved a hand. “The point is, I’ve seen it appear in florescent lighting and in moonlight. Is there any light it can’t pass through? Infrared? Ultraviolet?”

“Fuck if I know.”

“What about the speed of appearance? Can they come and go faster based on the wavelength?”

Craige turned in his seat. “Has anyone ever told you, you ask too many questions?”

“I’m just trying to understand them better.”

“Yeah, well, the only thing you need to understand is—” Craige flared his nostrils and spun back around in his seat. “Fuck, that son-of-a-bitch is trying to get me killed.” The steering wheel creaked in his grip.

“Who?” Reese said.

“Who do you think?” Craige nodded in Johnathan’s direction.

“Why do you say he’s trying to get you killed?”

“Because I’m in here with you. Alone with you.”

Reese frowned.

Craige’s reflection watched Reese. “You smell, doc.”

Reese sat back. “I showered.”

“Not that kind of smell.”

“I don’t understand.”

“Sex and chocolate, Dr. Dante. This whole fucking car reeks because of you. And every time you open your goddamned mouth, I want to stick my dick in it.”

Reese pressed his lips together.

“And when you aren’t talking, all I can think about is fucking your ass.”

Reese undid his seatbelt. “I think I’ll go for a walk.”

“Seung said to stay in the jeep.”

“Yeah, but I think it’s better if I don’t. You know. So you don’t say anything you’ll regret and I don’t… whatever.” Reese got out.

A handful of stray snowflakes fluttered to the ground, and Reese exhaled a cloud of white. He made his way over to where Seung stood with her eyes closed.

Johnathan was beside her with his arms crossed over his chest.

“Is everything okay?”

Seung twitched and curled her lips.

“She’s casting her wolf,” Johnathan said.

“She’s what?”
