He scoffs, unamused. “Be my guest. If you want to alert the police.”

His words confuse me, and I finally snap my head up to look at him.

Oh, Ireallyshouldn’t have done that.

Slivers of moonlight dance across his features, and my heart drops to my stomach.

He’s stupidly handsome, in a twisted way.

Strong cheekbones compliment his fair skin as icy eyes stare into mine. His full lips are pulled into a knowing smirk, but it’s the intricate designs of ink on his skin that stun me.

He’s in a long-sleeved dark shirt, but his tattoos creep up his neck, stopping just at his jawbone.

I take all of him in, memorizing his face, because it’s the last time I’ll see him.

My good foot slams on his boot, but he merely grunts and grips me tighter. A glass shard stings my palm, and he doesn’t miss my flinch.

“You’reinjured.” He continues, his voice barely above a whisper. “And, assuming I’m correct, you haven’t brought yourself to a hospital because you don’t want to be discovered. Isn’t that right?”

He smirks at my struggles, and victory shines in his eyes.

“Just let me go,” I try again. “Forget you ever saw me.”

“Not a chance.” He inhales deeply and deliberately, never breaking eye contact with me. “Fuck, you smell like salvation,” he whispers. “No, I couldn’t forget you if I tried.”

I tremble, doing my best to wrench away. He waits patiently as I try to break out of his grip, doing my best to ignore his tempting scent. Eventually, I tire myself out, and I sag against his chest, tears filling my eyes.

This isn’t fair.

His chuckle vibrates against me. “That’s my girl,” he murmurs, his lips brushing the top of my head. “Now, let’s get you home.”

I shiver.
