“Please leave me alone,” she murmurs, and she looks like she might cry again.
You did that to her.
I open my mouth to speak but find myself mute.
“Goaway!” She snaps, her eyes pained. “Please, just leave me alone!”
Her scent changes, dull and soured, and I want to howl in agony.
She’s barely been here a day, and I’m already confessing feelings for her, like a moron.
She doesn’t evenwantto be here, and I’m acting like a pervert.
I’m messing it up before anything has even happened.
I sigh and stand, heading towards to the door.
“You’re right,” I admit, standing in the doorway. “I don’t know you.”
Her brow furrows.
“But I’d like to,” I add softly. “Your give an incredible first impression, Olive.”
Her full lips part in surprise.
I swallow, desperate to tell her more, but not wanting to scare her off.
“I know this situation isn’t ideal,” I continue. “I wish we met under different circumstances. But I would like to get to know you, if you’d allow me to.”
It sounded much better in my head, but I force a smile anyway.
Because she doesn’tunderstand, and I can’t explain it to her yet.
How Killian has smiled for the first time in weeks since she’s been here.
And how my insufferable brother, as cold as he may be, is showing the tiniest sliver of humanity again.
I would love to explain it all to her, but not when she’s staring at me in shock.
“I don’t know,” she sighs. “I…this is all too much right now, Dylan.”
I nod. “I understand.”
It pains me, but I shut the door behind me, granting her space.
