It pains me to say it, but it has the desired effect.

He blanches, and his grip on my waist loosens. “Olive—”

“Let. Her. Go,” the officer snarls. “I won’t say it again. I’ll be forced to shoot.”

Words can’t describe how surreal and unfair the situation is.

But I have to act quickly.

So, I turn to face Killian one more time, and deal the final blow.

“You’re the worst thing that’s ever happened to me,” I promise him, even as the words burn like acid in my stomach. “I hope they drug me up so fucking much I forget I ever met you.”

My words have their desired effect.

He steps away from me, defeated, and the officer lowers his weapon.

My inner Omega howls in despair.

I may hate Killian in the moment, but the look of hurt on his face burns itself into my brain.

His eyes meet mine one last time, and he gives me a small nod.

Hopefully, he understands why I did what I did.

It was the only way they wouldn’t be arrested.

Before I can say goodbye, the officer pulls me towards him, and I stumble out the front door. My hands are behind my back before I can protest, and he snaps handcuffs on me, the metal clicking into place.

“Really?” I say, looking up at his stoic face. “Is that necessary?”

“Just part of the job,” he says.

“No, it’s not,” Killian says quietly. “You know she can’t outrun you.”

But the officer pulls me away and toward his car, which sits in the driveway.

I’m too numb to think.

I’m exhausted as he opens the back door and helps me inside, his too-strong Alpha scent confusing my senses. My head hurts and my heart aches.

And in the end, as he slams the door and we drive away, I give in to my despair.

I sob quietly in the backseat as we make our way towardsEden.

I lost.

My plan failed.
