The case against Fowler was building, but Grey had a sick feeling the man would get away with everything, and he wouldn’t let that happen. He’d do anything to keep the man away from Emily one way or the other.

The fucker hadn’t found out where she was yet, but it was only a matter of time.

Within thirty minutes, his cell phone rang. “Hello.”

“I can bring Larkin and two others over tonight after dinner, and if you feel she needs more time with them, they can come over tomorrow, too.”

“That would be great. Will Larkin know about any of what’s going on with Emily?”

“I’ve told her specifics and what we want her and the other two to talk about with Emily.”

“Her playroom isn’t set up all the way. Emily fights me with everything.”

“That’s okay. The girls will bring things.”

“Okay. Fuck, thank you.”

“No, I get it. There’s nothing you won’t do for your girl.”

“No, there isn’t,” Grey said.

“Talk to you later.”

Grey hung up, sat back, and did what he did best: analyze a situation and come up with several ways to accomplish what needed to be done and do it. Normally, he was always confident he’d get what he wanted. With Emily, he was terrified of making a mistake that could take her from him.

The first step was to get the cameras set up, so he called the head of security, Walsh, and the man promised it would be done by dinner time.

That done, he traipsed upstairs to check on Emily to find her lying in bed staring up at the ceiling. He leaned against the doorjamb, put his hands in his pocket, and watched her for a moment.

He could see the agony on her face, but there were no tears. In fact, he’d never seen her cry, and that bothered him.

“Hey, sweetheart.”

Dissolution covered her face before she blanked her expression. He couldn’t take it another moment and headed toward the bed. After he pushed off his shoes, he lay down beside her.

“Sweetheart, will you let me hold you? I really need a hug from you.”

Her eyes widened. “You do? From me?”

“Yes. No one else will do.”

She scooted over and lay against this side before resting her head on his shoulders and an arm on his abdomen. He wrapped his arm around her shoulders. “Thank you.”

“I’ll always give you a hug,” she said.

“Same for me. Any time you need a hug or to be held, come to me.”

“What if you’re busy?” she asked.

“It doesn’t matter. You’re my priority, baby.”

She exhaled and relaxed against him. “Grey, do you think I’m dirty?” she asked.

“Who the fuck told you that?” Grey barked.

She ducked her head. “No one.”

Grey sighed. He could guess who said that, which made his anger for the woman grow. “There is nothing about you that is dirty, baby.”
