Chapter Twenty

King watched Cat as she delicately ate the food put in front of her. He had a hard time paying attention to his parents because she looked so fucking beautiful. He had to admit that he liked her in her ratty jeans and t-shirts as much as her formal wear, maybe more because it was the Cat he’d fallen in love with.

“Sir, would you like coffee and dessert in the living room?” one of the maids asked.

“That would be fine. Can you find out if Corey is still up?”

“Yes. Would you like Jill to bring him down, sir?”

He looked at Cat. “That’s all right if they meet him?”

“Of course.”

He squeezed her hand and then nodded at the maid.

He stood and walked behind Cat’s chair to help her to stand and then tucked her arm through his as he led them to the living room. “Would anyone like a drink?”

“I would, son,” his dad said.

The women sat on loveseats across from each other. He was trying not to get pissed at how his mother was acting. No matter how often Cat tried to engage her in conversation, her mother would turn away.

He saw Cat get a little discouraged, but it didn’t show to anyone but him because he knew her so well.

He looked toward the doorway to see Jill, the nanny, with Corey in her arms. The boy squealed and wiggled to get down when he saw his mom and him.

“You can let him go, Jill, but stand by,” King said.

“Yes, sir.”

Cat clapped her hands, then pulled Corey into her arms and hugged him tightly before she turned to him. “Corey, honey, Daddy has some people he wants you to meet.”

She handed Corey off to him. “Mother and Father. This is Corey, our son.”

He felt Cat stiffen when his mother rolled her eyes.

“He’s the spitting image of you, son,” his dad said.

“I think he’s going to be as smart as his daddy, too.” Cat smiled at him.

He bent forward and kissed her, not caring if his parents sat watching.

Corey studied King’s parents with a finger in his mouth

“What in the world is on the boy’s face?” Eliana asked.

King noticed a smudge and wiped it off with his finger. “Is this a cookie, Corey?”

Corey giggled and nodded. “My cookie.”

King bent forward and acted like he was eating the boy up. “Oh, I love cookies.”

Corey giggled. “Daddy. I’m not a cookie.”

“Are you sure?”

The boy grinned and shook his head. “Yes. Ask Mommy.”

He smiled at Cat. “He’s telling me he’s not a cookie, and I really want one.”
