“Yes. Thank you.”
She pushed the down button and leaned against the back of the elevator. Darian came out of the room and scanned the area. He caught sight of her when the doors closed, but he was too far away to do anything.
When she got to the bottom floor, she came out onto the sidewalk, turned, and walked down the street before she hailed a taxi, ignoring Hicks when he called out to her. She didn’t want to be anywhere in Darian’s vicinity.
She shut the door.
“Where to, miss?” the taxi driver asked.
“I…” A pain like no other made her double over. God, the pain was unlike any she’d ever experienced. It felt like someone was poking her with a cattle prod. “Hospital.”
“Oh, no. I’ll get you right there. There’s one a minute away.”
“Hurry.” Larkin panted, and the pain receded, but there was no time to get her breath back because the pain just grew in intensity, making her feel faint at the same time want to throw up.
She could feel herself start to pass out and call out Brylee’s name. She couldn’t call out the one name she needed to.
