Kinley nodded and almost grinned at the guy’s face’s interest.
“Really. Is that what you were working on today?”
Shelby and Kinley both knew the program they’d worked on that day was all bogus, and they wanted to confuse these two even more. It was actually fun coming up with things that wouldn’t make sense.
The guys looked at each other. Shelby knew they had taken more notes because she’d watched them out of the corner of her eye.
“So, we’d like to work on it with you.”
“You’ll have to ask the daddies,” Shelby said and then bit the inside of her cheek to keep from laughing at the frustration on their faces.
“I doubt they’d care if we just sit in the lounge.”
“I’ll ask when they get back,” Kinley said.
“When will you be working on it again?”
“Tomorrow, I think,” Shelby said. “I think I hear the daddies coming. You can ask them your questions.”
The men stiffened and glanced at each other. “No, we have to get back to work, but we’ll check in tomorrow.”
Both girls nodded and waited until they’d walked away to press their hands over their mouths and giggled.
Sam laughed with them. “You two are enjoying this way too much, I think.”
That made them laugh harder.
Eli walked in and looked at the two. When he saw they were okay and smiling, he relaxed.
“Shelby, are you ready? Your daddy wants me to bring you over to him.”
She jumped up. “Yes.”
“Hey, Sam, I’ll take both girls, but can you be here in the morning?”
“Sure. It’s fun to watch these two in action. They would have made great spies.”
Shelby’s eyes widened. “Really?”
“Great, look what you started,” Eli said and laughed.
Kinley and Shelby talked about spies the whole ride over to Warrick’s building, which wasn’t far.
Eli walked them up to Warrick’s office. “He said he’s coming, honey, so go in and close the door. Kinley and I will wait out here because we need to go somewhere.”
“Okay. I’ll see you tomorrow,” Shelby said and hugged Kinley.
“We’ll need to come up with a special spy handshake.”
Shelby laughed. “I love it.”
Eli rolled his eyes. “Go on.”
