Chapter Ten

“Let’s get you settled on the sofa. Would you like something to drink?”

“Do you have pop?”

He shook his head. “No, and I probably won’t let you drink a lot of that anyway. I do have juice.”

“All right. I’d like that.”

He turned on the TV and handed her the remote. “Try to find a movie.”

When he came back a few minutes later, she was still clicking through shows on Netflix.

“I don’t know which one to pick,” she said.

He set down the glasses and sat down next to her. “What kind of movies do you like?”

“Romance.”

He bit back a grin at the blush that covered her face. “Let me help.”

They had agreed on one within a minute, and he relaxed back and put his arm around her. “Is this okay, honey?”

She peeked up at him and nodded.

“Okay, you tell me if you get uncomfortable,” he said.

The movie was one he had seen before, so he spent most of his time watching her expressions as she looked on. When the movie was done, he turned off the TV. “Are you about ready to go to bed?”

He could tell she was getting nervous and wanted to get her settled as quickly as possible.

“Come on, honey.” He wrapped an arm around her waist and walked down the hallway. He debated where to put her but decided it had already been a stressful day and didn’t want to push her further.

He stopped at one of the doors and opened it. “This is one of the guest rooms. The bed’s already made, and there are towels in the bathroom. I can get your things, so you’ll have them here.”

She glanced up at him and then the bedroom. Why she was so disappointed confused her, but she really thought he’d want to sleep with her. Maybe he didn’t want her that way?

They hadn’t really talked about it. What would their relationship be? As friends or more?

“I … okay.” She stepped into the room.

“If you need me, I’m right down the hallway,” he said.

The look on his face confused her. He almost looked sad.

“Is me being here upsetting you?” she asked.

He looked shocked. “What? No. Where would you get that idea?”

“Because you look angry.”

He pinched the bridge of his nose. “No, baby, I’m not angry at all. I would just prefer you to be in my bed, but I don’t want to push you.”

Her stomach relaxed, and she smiled, then tried to come up with the courage to say what she wanted. “I’d rather be with you.”

Warrick looked pleased as he walked to her and pulled her into his arms. “I’m glad. Nothing will happen. I just want to hold you.”
